OT: Anyone have Charter Internet?

If so...how is it?
I am moving to Athens next month and the area I am moving to does not have Comcast, so I have to get Charter. I see they advertise plans starting at 60mbps but I would like to know a real world evaluation.
Keep in mind, I am moving from a Windstream area, and the fastest speed available in any Windstream area is 24Mbps(which they never deliver). So, pretty much anything is going to be a step forward.

I moved last October and went from Windstream to Charter. Charter is head and shoulders better than Windstream. If that is saying much.
Charter is much faster without question. As with a lot of providers it tends to slow down at night as everyone gets online. I also have a few problems from time to time with Charter supposedly signing off and back on.
Overall there is no question you are improving by going to Windstream.

Charter is the absolute worst. Sorry in advance for your lack on internet and poor customer service

I second this. I usually get 14-18 mbps when they advertise 60. Since they went totally digital, there is a 8-10 second delay with channel changes. And their customer service sucks arse!

If you like your internet going in and out as often as a traffic light changes green to red, then yeah Charter will do wonders for you. It's extremely spotty and I typically have to reset it a couple times a day..when it's working the connection is fast I'll give it that but from prior experiences, Comcast is much better

I have no idea about the quality of Windstream but Charter is pretty awful compared to Comcast. If you watch a decent amount of Netflix/Youtube it will piss you off to no end because it is impossible to play anything without having to wait two or three times for the video to buffer. I know AT&T is available in some areas out towards Epps Bridge now so you may want to look into and give them a shot if it is an option.

NEVER had that issue with Charter. I "cut the cord" while with them and streamed Netflix, Hulu, and who knows what on multiple TVs all at once......no problem. Not once.
30mbps speed was what I had and it was perfect.

I use them for Internet only because it is the only thing in Athens worth a damn performance wise. I have DirecTv and if I used any other service I could never watch anything on demand because of slow download speeds.
Speed is best in town, expensive as hell once promo period ends, customer service is awful but basically unless you want dial up speeds you will be stuck with Charter in Athens.

I used to have it and hated it. Well, I hated their tv the most. But the Internet would frick up all the time. I switched to u verse a few years ago and love it. I would recommend u verse if they offer it there

I really have no complaints about charter. Some of my friends got AT$T for their house and they hate it.

Thanks guys...sounds like only one person who answered has experienced Windstream, so some of you have no idea what bad internet really is.

I had Windstream before Charter. Definitely a step up going to Charter. My deal is, Charter knows they're the only game in town so they just don't give a frick.

There's a difference between Charter In Competitive Areas and Charter As A Monopoly.
I too live in an area of Athens where Charter is the only internet provider. Can't even get DSL.
And no, I don't live in the country. I live on a main road in Clarke County.
When you live in an apartment complex with competitive market, Charter does pretty good.
You get out here in Winterville, and Charter fricking sucks.
Resetting your internet all day, it's a real thing.
Call customer service, they have you do speedtest on their own tester, and even they say over the phone "That's fricked up brah... hang on let me get my manager"
You better prepare to just be pissed off. There's no way around it.
Also, this net neutrality shite that just went through.... joke is on you now when you want to watch a youtube video... and no agreement between charter and youtube exists to push their data through, and you wait 10 minutes to buffer a 1 minute video, even though your speed test is at 20mbps.
And as far as that 60mbps shite they are dangling... I dare you to try to sign up, in an area without competition. That won't be available.
Oh, they'll charge you for it.
But do a speed test once in a while. If you get 60mbps 1 out of 100 times then go dump your 401k on a Cherokee roulette wheel.
