A thug is violent. Getting in somebody's face after a big hit or a touchdown might be mean and hurt someone's precious feelings, but let's not get overly dramatic here."
Compared to Euro soccer hooligans, American football fans and players are rank amateurs when it comes to taunting and thugging.

you guys are old, huh? still sticking with the soccer sucks thing?
There isn't a "soccer sucks thing". Soccer can be a pretty boring sport to watch a lot of the time and people don't like it just like certain people don't like baseball / football / basketball / golf / etc. No need to get upset about it.

no comparison between american football and the rest of the world football...
American football is a very violent sport filled with huge, fast, strong men involving themselves in severe collisions resulting in ripped hard tissues and severe long term deleterious health effects...
soccer is none of these...sport played by well conditioned, very coordinated athletes who fall to the ground, squirming in pain if contact is even closely eminent...better comparison is global football and basketball, baseball, tennis, etc

I don't follow soccer, but it does seem like you're always reading headlines about how one gang of soccer hooligans killed some other soccer hooligans........or murdered a referee...........or lit a stadium on fire and burned some innocent fans and kids, etc.......all because some skinny fruitcake kicked a soccer ball into their team's goal.
Looks like a bunch of brain-dead euro-trash savages over there from where I'm sitting. And so it's funny to me how some american soccer fans, like the OP, try to pretend like their soccer fandom makes them so worldly, cultured, and enlightened...........
Twilight Zone.

Soccer does suck. Their fans are ridiculous, they riot over goals, the flopping is beyond absurd, the players never score, and there is no game clock, nobody but the ref seems to know when the game actually ends.

They flop because they're rewarded because the rules support it. For example, you'd see a lot less flopping if they would simply stop the clock when someone went down and not make up the stoppage time later.

It's not so bad now (Poland and Russia aside, apparently), but when I lived over there in the 80s and again in the 90s, the easiest way to tell it was a home match was by the smell of the CS gas.
