This may be correct...but we scored 35 on Clemson's defense, and with that field goal it would have been 38. So, we MIGHT have scored on a regular defensive alignment....I mean, we did a pretty good job the rest of the game of scoring on them.

I look at the 2 punts before that last drive as more indicative. Especially when RIcht's fairy arse punted on the 40 when it was obvious that defense was gassed and wasn't stopping anyone.

O Line
My conclusion is we don't have athletic/talented OL who can handle athletic speed rushing DE's. Hopefully it's a coaching issue that can be worked out but they better correct it fast before Clowney comes to town.

Correct, and agreed!

But make no mistake about it. SouCar has three top notch defensive linemen...not just Clowney.

Jesus....Gates. I knew he did bad but I may need to rewatch the whole game to see how bad he truly did. Good fricking god that is awful

Gates is an interior lineman. he does not have the lateral quickness to even slow down and fast rush off the edge. It is not totally his fault. he is out of position. BUT, we just don't have anybody more ready than him. Apparently the coaching staff are not comfortable with anyone else. They see the guys every single day in practice. If you thought that was bad take another look at him against Clowney last year. he just doesn't have the lateral quickness needed.

Translation: lack of quality recruiting on the OL

I was disappointed that he chose to punt as well. hey. It is what it is. had he NOT punted and we were stopped everyone would have been complaining that he didn't punt.

It's a no win situation. Fans ALWAYS yell to go for it. It's exciting!

Exactly what kind of stats would satisfy you?

The only one that matters. V-I-C-T-O-R-Y! Victory, victory that's our cry!!!!!

Bama didn't play well offensively and still found a way to win in pretty convincing fashion.

Take away three non offensive touchdowns and it was a 14-10 ball game. VT had more offensive yardage. AJ Mc barely had 100 yards passing. But those stats don't really matter. Nick Satan and crew walked away with a W which is what ultimately matters.

Yes, i think to a great degree that is accurate. Hopefully our new OLine coach will get this corrected. but it is always difficult to gauge how recruits will develop. OLinemen are some of the hardest to gauge.

But, yes. We lost out on Tunsil. He might have helped with the situation. Who knows, we thought John Theus was the answer. And he might well be. We'll have to wait and see!

Not at all, for all the people I am typically arguing against you make fair points. I disagree on some but really I think we agree on what we saw. I think we differ more on where we go from here and in general just optimism

Doesn't mean I still won't argue till I am blue in the face

Sadly, I don't think he is at all. Otherwise, he would have beaten Gates out for the spot and not have been riding the pine at the start of the game...

Well, I can go along with that!

Ah, but Bama has a GREAT defense. We don't. Our problem right now is we all realize that our defense is young and inexperienced. We give them a pass because of that. however, all things being equal, our offense actually played very well and our defense played poorly. Yes, they played well considering. but most other teams would be screaming that their defense sucked if they gave up whet ours did Saturday. We just give them a pass because they are young and inexperienced. We put more pressure on our offense because they are supposed to be the best...or at least one of the best. But, if they play every game like they did against Clemson and put up those same numbers they will be the #1 offense in the country...and here we are complaining about them.

I can accept that! I am always up for honest, civil discussion. We all have opinions and should be able to voice them. I guess my biggest disappointment about the rant is that it seems to be a flame board. I love honest opinions. I have no problem with anybody on here. I don't think my opinion is any better or more valid than anyone elses. I've learned a lot from you guys, and you have all shaped the way i look at things.

You MIGHT be right. Remember, though, that he is a true sophomore. It takes time to learn how to use your feet and hands along the line. Using your hands is one of the hardest things for a lineman to learn...that then footwork. It's a VERY hard position to play. Who you block changes from the time you come up to theline until the ball is snapped. the defense comes up in different formations, then they move around and slide....every time that happens a new blocking scheme has to be called. Then when a new play is called at the line, it changes the blocking assignments again. There is a LOT going on down in the line area before a ball is snapped.

Any offense that has as many returners as we did and goes 6 straight possessions in the middle of the game with a net of -9 yds on those possessions did not play a good game, maybe a good half of a game but not a good game.

At that point if our offense had put together a couple of first downs on each of those possessions what do you think that does for our defense.

No I am not saying the defense played a good game, but we knew with all the people we had starting with no experience that they would have a hard time, but so did our offense.

So if the X Factor is the "magic bullet" as some have mentioned, then why on earth don't the 92,000+ in the stands at Sanford ever drown out the opposing QB on a consistent basis? The '07 Blackout was SIX YEARS AGO, and that's the last time I think the stadium might've registered on the Richter Scale.

I can't help it. I don't love AM either, but that poor midget frick doesn't have a chance with that kind of blocking.

No argument. had we been able to move the ball our defense would have been fresher. but, really, we DID move the ball well. We DID score a boatload of points.

What i am trying to point out is if we had a typical Georgia defense this discussion would not even be happening. we would have been saying our offense is as good as advertised and we would have walked away with a 14 point win. (At least)
Maybe more considering past defenses were VERY good at forcing turnovers...we might have had the ball a couple more times and put even more points on the board. I think we will see a greatly improved defense by the time LSU comes into town. Unfortunately we have SouCar this week.

Well he did throw a pretty boneheaded interception. I don't think that was a result of bad blocking.
