Hell, on any given 3rd down play, half the D would be looking to the sideline or bouncing around in formation as the ball was being snapped. Whether that was willful disobedience or honestly being lost, it goes back to the guy calling the defensive plays.

It's hard to tell who's the confused one when the whole defense has their hands in the air after another 30 yd completion

Idk he "retired". To be honest, you'd know more than I would it sounds like. Fwiw, I think he got tired of going deep in the playoffs and never winning it all.

SMDH. Terrible. Griffin was great last year.

I'd say Congratulations to CTG for learning from his mistakes and radically changing his ways. Cause.......thats the only way "tremendous success" is gonna happen for him, imo.

Grantham had his dream team 3-4 defense cast of players in 2012........and they under-achieved. Badly. He will probably never have that kind of talent ever again like he did in 2012.

Good luck CTG. You are going to need it...

The New Carrollton Hcoach was the DC under Ben Scott back in the eighties from what I have learned, what I have been told is that two of the "other" finalist were the recently resigned Thomson HC and the Griffin HC.

I have some family in that area and graduated from WGC or now UWG back in 92.

This could very well happen but does it mean his scheme is legit?? I'm not buying it. That could mean a number of things. He could have simplified the scheme for those players or the talent level they are playing against is a dropoff.

Whatever the reason it doesn't change the fact it was obvious there were players yelling at eachother on the field trying to get guys lined up. This type of confusion cannot happen even for a second or it puts the defense on their heels.

What will it mean if we have success right out of the gate under Pruitt? Does that mean Pruitt is a genius or the players are a year more experienced?

The facts are we have been able to recruit NFL talent but they have not been coached up defensively. Even in 2012 our guys seemed to rely on sheer talent and not scheme.

Hell our five star OLB (Jordan Jenkins) even said in an interview he would revert back to what he knew.

Every. Single. One.

I do not jest. Heck, the plays on the sideline were often funnelled to one player (I believe Herrera was it last year). If that one player is flummoxed by it - and Herrera often was - then the whole blasted defense is flummoxed.

My wife the non-football fan was watching our defense, noticed the wholesale confusion again and again (I'm thinking it was the Auburn game), and said, "You need to fire your defensive coach".

It was that obvious to her, it pretty much should be that obvious to everyone.

deeprig: I'm not an expert on defensive scheming and I never played football growing up, so I don't know what's right and what's not. I'm just a fan of the game and watch a lot of it.

With that said, what I saw on the field from the comfort of my couch was confusion, disorganization, misplacement, misalignment, and big plays given up time and time again (including a ton of 3rd and 4th down conversions).

I don't know if what was going on was normal or not, but it didn't appear to be normal to me. I didn't see that kind of commotion in the defensive backfield in any other games I've been watching, either in the NFL or in college. That doesn't prove anything, I know, because I could just have been more observant of our team and what they were doing, but it seemed rather obvious to me that something wasn't right.

Since you seem to be defensive about the criticism thrown at CTG, I'd like it if you could explain to me why what I saw was just my ignorant observation that was not informed by truth. I would like to see a defense of our defense and CTG, specifically how my observations (which appear to be shared by many here) are not well-informed and why criticism of CTG and his defense coaching/scheming is misplaced.

Haven't seen one of those in decades! I always hated they changed the mascot over there from the Braves to the Wolves (which is dumb as hell.)

That's what happens when the Borg assimilate you into the University system.

Tell me about it. My freshman year was the first year of the wolves. Damn shame.
