I see a lot of people worrying about Tennessee and Bama...both huge and exciting games, but is everyone really chalking USCe up as a win? I mean Spurrier has had Richts number for the past 4 or 5 seasons, and with less talent. I hope our guys don't overlook TBC like some of our fans are. Just like every year..the road to the sec east championship runs through the gamecocks and Spurrier.

What do you guys think?

yes

The last 3 times we've beaten SC we haven't won the east.
The last 2 times we've won the east, we lost to SC.

SC is about as bad as they've been since the early spurrier years. They don't have a ton of talent, they have question marks at QB, and they're playign in Athens which will be their first true road game of the year.

I realize we've lost to sc when we've had the better team before so anything is possible, but there is no reason at all we should lose to them this year at home.

I am. I don't think it will get overlooked since it is really our first meaningful game.

I think you are pumping them up a little too much. They won the east once. It is really only us that seems to have trouble with them consistently.

This seems similar to the tune of what everyone was saying here before UF last year. I realize fans perceptions has literally zero to do with our gameplan, but I'm always going to be weary of USCe until proven otherwise. Even our wins against them are ugly

ehhhh....in the sense that we aren't giving them much chance yes..but the situations are different.

Last year, UF at least had talent across the board (except QB) and fielded a stellar defense every year under muschamp. Plus it's in a different venue, it's our biggest SEC rival, and cwm was potentially coaching for his job.

This year, SC is devoid of talent and only has 2 games to figure out how good their QB is (and yep, we can say that too). Pruitt's defense shoudl eat him alive. We will also be in better shape at OL, RB, arguably WR, and defense than we were in the UF game last year. Plus, it's at home. The last 3 home games against SC:

13- evenly matched teams, we won
11- evenly matched teams, we lost
09- evenly matched teams, we won

This year I don't think we're evenly matched, we are the better team. I'm not saying there is 0% chance we lose, there's always a chance. I'm just saying I"m not worried about it. I'm far more concerned with a handful of other games on the schedule than SC.

I'm not pumping them up...it's an sec east game...no artificial inflation needed and they have consistently been a thorn in our side and helped keep us out of the SEC championship game a few times. It's a must win imo..we lose that one...it's all down hill. We need to win...and it's a huge game imo

This is a separate issue from the normal wtf loss every year...we can have an 80 page thread on that shite.

The Old Ball Sack is in Richt's head winning 4 of 5. The Shamecocks always make this game close and ugly every year. The Dawgs need to come out and punch them in mouth in Athens!

was richt in spurrier's head when richt won 4 of 5? No, we were just better that day.

Intimidation and head games will have nothing to do with who wins this game.

We had far better teams every year in that stretch and other than 2006* I can't remember a comfortable win.

When he first came everyone was looking for UGA to finally pay him back with as asswhooping but other than that shutout they've all been close

I don't remember the last year when the disparity of talent was as far in our favor as it will be this year (barring injuries).

I also think Pharoh Cooper is one of best players in the SEC. I just would hate to see us looking ahead and losing this one...I mean we 100% should not have lost last year...but found away

Came in to say this exact thing. WG made some good points on the differences in the respective games. However, as others have pointed out, this game is critical for gaining momentum into the year and I think could be a HUGE confidence booster if one of the QBs has a big game to lead us to a win. I really don't see us losing this one unless we have a complete meltdown on offense (2-3 turnovers) and give up a big special teams play in their favor.

Do we play a Power 5 team to open our season this year?

That was last year, I was there to see the result. Their D will be better and......it's Spurrier. Clemson may be the fans big game but there is NO DOUBT who's Spurriers is.

Dude, if Mason had just thrown the damn ball through the end zone like any competent game manager would have done, UGA would have won that game as well.

I honestly believe we completely kick their a$s this season. Badly.

Of course, I've been honestly wrong before, so ...

Yes, there's actually an inverse relationship between WGs confidence in UGA football and winning.
