Thread update: That Georgia Gold tv commercial is kind of freaky with the gold dude and his many accoutrements clad in gold. LINK
This (g)old theme reminded me of the James Bond movie "Goldfinger" and the girl who allegedly died from being covered in gold. (I wasn't the first to notice this apparently as the writer in the link below references it as well).
But then my e-research with Wiki and Google (thanks Cheese Grits) revealed that she was not the first person to meet her demise in this fashion: That distinction belonged to a mental patient in the 1946 movie "Bedlam" starring Boris Karloff.
According to a recent restaurant review these KFC regional food themes are just getting off the ground and there may be more to come. LINK

Far out. Good work Counselor.
Also, I looked it up and the gold Colonel Sanders is played by Billy zane, the dude from Tombstone and Titanic. That's kind of a random and weird choice to play the Colonel, if you ask me. Or am I missing some sort of obvious connection?

Yeah I don't know how they came up with that guy although this story indicates they were trying to find an average guy to play the part. LINK
They've had a difficult time finding a Colonel Sanders replacement.

Signing different famous actors to play the part seems like a solid marketing strategy more than whatever y'all are trying to spin.

Cheese Grits, Didn't you know Colonel Sanders in real life? What do you think of all these buffoon actors making a mockery out of him... and his own company turning him in to a caricature?

Yes
He was wild as a march hare but he was a hell of a marketer. He might be okay with it but I think he would be most unhappy with the way they have crapped up his product. Pretty sure he would not eat anything on the current menu.

On tRant?
Is this possible?
I tend to view us all as somewhere between Forrest Gump and the 3 Stooges.

It's not so clear other than the fact they are having a difficult time finding one who can emulate the original Col. Sanders.
I was pretty certain they were swapping up the actor every so often on purpose as a part of the current marketing initiative.

Cheese Grits, How did you come to know Colonel Sanders? Can you tell us some stories please? Did they invent that spork thing ?

I am unsure how anyone could think otherwise.

The way I heard it the new Colonel was supposed to be the fat dude from snl . But he bombed so hard when they debuted his gimp schtick campaign and people thought it was so offensive to the Colonels memory...that KFC rolled with it and pretended like the plan all along was to have new Colonels every few months. And pretended they were just kidding. And the fat snl dude is still getting paid like he's the new Colonel even though he got fired cause they signed a contract and everything.

He was from KY but was down in AL for part of his life. We are not related but shared many historical family ties (both families knew the same folks) and the old man was stationed down in AL when he was there. His offspring lived right across the street from family so when we were younger we saw a lot of him as that old neighborhood was old school. Back in the 50's, 60's and 70's you migrated from house to house and had cocktails and dinner every night. Kids today have no concept how much smoking and drinking used to occur before the 1980's. Open a front door in my old neighborhood and a house would appear on fire there was so much tobacco smoke inside trying to get out.
Not sure if they invented the spork but if memory serves they seemed to at least be an early adopter of that damned thing. Terrible invention considering the old gravy (and taters of course) was best eaten with a spoon as a spork made it impossible to get the last drops at the bottom. That old tater gravy may have been even better that the chicken.
Supposedly his "11 herbs and spices" could be found in any kitchen and when he cooked at our house he used what we already had (he did not bring his own spices) so I am guessing he was telling the truth about that. While his chicken was damn good, the best I ever had was cooked by a black lady in KY but pretty sure her use of Crisco / lard had much to do with it. A friend of her's made the best damned cheese balls but I have not seen them anywhere since maybe the mid 80's. (deep fried and damned delicious when served hot!). Don't' know why cheese balls died out in the south except the heart attack killed the consumers maybe. Damn they were good eatin tho!
I know some very interesting stuff about his personal life but would not type it on a public board. he was a character for sure and unlike modern folks who all want to be plain.

I've read a couple of things that indicate this was a plan. No doubt they were formulating a new marketing initiative due to sagging sales and the overall new strategy seems to have worked thus far. Part of it was targeting a younger crowd who had never even heard of Colonel Sanders. So he was sort of modernized and then there are the different promos and so they have worked it up as having different colonels to go with the different promos. They are going to make some other marketing initiatives in April. We'll have to see how it all works out.
