Chikfila does some serious grassroots undercover charity stuff that nobody will ever even know about. They're game-changers.

Since both of you worked there, how do they go about cultivating this politeness conditioning with their employees? Are you sent home immediately and put on probation if you don't say "my pleasure" and "thank you sir" five times minimum to each customer? I'm being serious. It's impressive.

Interesting question. That actually became a "thing" after my time there. We still focused on service to a much greater degree than, say, Burger King, where the managers literally had us jump in the dumpsters to pack down the garbage before coming back in to make somebody's Whopper.

I was lectured pretty good once for cussing in the break room about something or other. The operator took that pretty seriously (even though we had two crazy-cult church kids who would routinely argue theology, heatedly, right behind the front counter and in full view of the customers).

I was just kidding.

I was involved in a project once though through a church and we would meet once a week early in the morning and there was always Chikfila chicken biscuits there. And so not to be a free loader I offered to pick up the biscuits one week for the next meeting. So I showed up at chikfila at 6am expecting to order a bunch of chicken biscuits, but they were already ready waiting for me. And when I went to pay, was told it was on the house and it was their pleasure because they knew what we were doing and kind of looked at me like I was retarded.

Pretty cool.

In my opinion it's a 2 way street. They are a great company to work for and very loyal, and a think that loyalty is returned in how their employees treat the customers

Or something like that. My best friends dad was the owner so my story was different. I didnt want him to kick my arse.

I also got a $2K scholarship for working 2000 hours. At UGA it has to be used for tuition. My friends at KSU got it put on their student cards so they got to spend the 2K. frickers

Yeah, they do a ton of that. It's a great thing and it goes a long way to build a true community relationship. If you recall, they were also the ones sending people out into "Snowpocalypse" to feed people who were stranded on the highways.

It's amazing to think about just how well they're doing in spite of literally closing their doors for an entire day EVERY WEEK while their competitors operate as normal. All to maintain a commitment to faith and family time.

They're doing it right.

I've had the Georgia Gold on the little snacker sandwich thing. It was pretty good. Prefer the Nashville hot, though.

Are you able to recall the exact scenario and words you used to order? Did you happen to change your mind ten times or so mid order or leave a two car gap in the drive-thru line at any point while you read GSB on your phone?

When I pulled up to where the young lady was taking my order I wasn't where I could see the menu so when she asked what I was ordering I told her I can't see the menu but I think I want a chicken sandwich with extra pickles and a Coke. Now this was one of those two lane deals merging into one as you proceed toward the drive through window and I had to let a car merge in front of me out of politeness. That may have been some sort of omen right there. And I was also reading the GSB posts and other things on my phone but the line moved fairly quickly.

I'm thinking maybe the vest people were there for a special occasion--they seem to do a lot of promotions and fundraisers at this particular store.

Well next time you're really hungry just get yourself a big ol' bucket of that Georgia Gold chicken drenched in mustard sauce along with a couple of those local microbrews to wash it all down; that might take your mind off of it for a little while anyway.
