No, it's not. Nothing in the Georgia code requires an arrest for driving without a license on person (which we're all assuming is the charge here, as opposed to not having a license in the first place). It's up to the officer's discretion. In most jurisdictions the officer will give you a ticket and let you call someone to pic

Apparently there is no requirement to have a license to drive at all...

Take that PIG!

It is merely a common courtesy to present an ID to a cop....there is nothing that says you have to other than your desire to avoid confrontation....

I wonder how many of them gorgeous young white girls running around Athens would be taken to jail driving without a license on them?

You do realize that most of Atlanta isn't really far off that description, either, right?

sure, if you're south of 20.

People who call atlanta a shithole aren't going to the right places. That, or their only major exposure is going to games at the dome. In which case I would agree with the sentiment.

Took me 2 hours to get from Norcross to Dallas Friday for a baseball game. That's why I hate Atl.

Agreed, but still, those are HUGE parts of what IS Atlanta.

WRONG. It is the law in the State of Georgia to acquire, by AAA certified testing, and have a legal driver's license to operate a motorized vehicle, with very few exceptions (mostly military/government and scooters).

These cases have more to do with being refused a license, cops not being able to pull you over for no reason or for a license check without doing something else wrong, etc

Apparently about 50,000 people a year in the United States, including Georgia, go before a judge and successfully argue that it is indeed legal to drive without a drivers license...and the number who never get ticketed in the first place because of the constitutional right to travel disagree....

It really works well at road blocks...just refuse to show 'em your license and be nice about it....they have no right to ask you for your license because there is no requirement that you have one ....it is a courtesy...of course it is much quicker to not be an a-hole and just give 'em your license...The state of Georgia can and does make all sorts of laws that can't be enforced unless the person wants to comply....

I couldnt agree more....and I dont think, given the shite that cops put up with everyday out of citizens that it is too much to ask to produce a license when asked. The people who do this seem like assholes to me....but they do have the right to do it....it just seems that they lack decency...
