He almost surely won't I wouldn't think.
I'm not worried about the impact on our football team but it's still frustrating as frick that the AJC, abh, and basically news media throughout the state falls all over themselves to report this meaningless, irrelevant shite which only perpetuates the "thug u" mantra. Meanwhile KPD gives courtesy calls to their coach prior to rape allegations. All you can do is shake your head.

Salty dawg is right . There's no duty to arrest under Ga law.

from what I gather (could be wrong) they don't have to arrest if you simply don't have your license on you, but they are required to arrest if you dont' have a license period. Since he was not charge with "driving on a suspended license", I would assume that he simply doesn't have one. Whether he never applied for one after he moved here from MD or whatever...this all seems like much ado about nothing. I'm truly hoping kirby uses some rational thought and punishes internally.

These cops a joke. This should have been a warning at best. Are they trying to get us to lose against UNC?

His MD license would still entitle him to drive in Georgia (unless the MD license was expired or suspended, in which case he would be charged one of those offenses).
Totally separate, but there is an obligation to apply for a Georgia license if you are going to be domiciled in Georgia. But students are typically considered residents of their home state, so they can get a Georgia license, but they have no legal obligation to do so.

so sounds like maybe his MD license expired (guessing?) and he never applied for a GA one, is that plausible?
Based on the wording of the charge it sounds like he doesnt' have a license, period.

The wording doesn't support this though, I agree.

We had kids arrested for "emerging from an alley" and "refusing to provide his middle name" is it really a stretch to think he was arrested for simply leaving his license at home? I don't

I agree this is the most plausible explanation.
Trying to parse the wording of the charge is a fool's errand since there are so many potential license violations. What we really need to know is the O.C.G.A. section under which he was charged.

I'm from Elberton. Moved to Atlanta. Got pulled over and the cop yelled at me for not getting my license changed. I had already been there a few years. But he didn't arrest me.

For those that missed Jake Ganus' tweet before it got deleted. Jake Ganus tweet

Ganus a bit misplaced there as it was UGA Police, rather than ACC. Also, not sure if you guys saw the update with statements from the university, but sounds like he had a valid Maryland drivers license (probably not on him) but for some reason showed them the Georgia ID instead. I would chalk this one up to failure to communicate by both parties and then a bit of overzealousness on the part of the officer. Should not result in suspension, but a good reminder to Kirby that it might be time to re-invoke the "license checks" that we ran for a few seasons, raising visibility among team members on who can/can't drive.

The way I read the statement was that he failed the Georgia test to get a license and never mentioned anything to the police officer about having a valid license from any state. If he did, the UGA police said they would have run it in the system...
Anyway, the confusion always lies in the fact that UGA police are their own police agency, unlike most in the country. However, they utilize ACC jail for a lot of their "arrests." UGA police do have a holding cell, but don't have the network for arresting like ACCPD has.

No clue. Apparently even Nick Marshall got one and that guy has never completed a full sentence in his life.

I don't give a shite about the uga popo. But they need to leave our players alone unless they do something actually bad. That's gotta change.
