Jacob Eason on the clock

Eason had better show one hell of an improvement if he wants success. Check out Eason's game performances in 2016. Eason's best performance was in his first game. By the end of the year Eason was much worse. The upside down learning curve doesn't inspire confidence.
Fromm knows he has a good chance to take over. He ain't gonna defer to anyone.

I do worry about Eason's ability to make quick reads; not sure if Fromm has that ability but I guess we'll see. I really hope he makes the next step but something inside of me thinks he has the potential to be the next Christian Hackenberg.
Then again, he had no elite weapons at wide receiver, his offensive line was trash and he was getting used to the pro system.

His best game was most certainly not his first game, and He improved month by month. Fromm knows he is likely gonna redshirt and have to wait until 2019 to play much.

Ridiculous thread is ridiculous.

When you consider his supporting cast he had a pretty good freshman season. My problem is he has some serious mechanical issues that has nothing at all to do with an offensive line who can't hold their girlfriends hand and receivers who look like me trying to catch a pass. He takes FOREVER to get rid of the ball.....constantly pump faking which is either indecision born out of a lack of confidence in his own ability to read speed at this level OR a lack of arm strength, which at times appeared to be a problem. His accuracy is HORRIBLE...that isn't something born out of pressure, that is simple native ability. Finally he is as bad as any I have ever seen at watching the receiver he is going to throw and never watching the rest of the field...how he hasn't thrown a lot of picks is beyond lucky. And finally he seems flat footed as hell...doesn't use his lower body to throw the ball at all, another inherent ability.
Overall Eason shows limitless promise but I think his high school career made a very talented young man look much better than he would have looked had he played in Georgia or Florida or Texas....anywhere other than the Pacific NW and maybe parts of the Southwest or western US I think you have a middle of the pack QB with a lot of upside potential but not a lot of proven ability

If pressure affects your footwork, it can absolutely impact accuracy.

That's serious hyperbole. He was a pretty standard freshman in that regard.

That isn't inherent.

How in the frick can we honestly evaluate Eason after 1 year and with the following factors working AGAINST him:
1) He is a Freshman...a True Freshman...starting in the SEC..known mostly for deep and talented defenses.
2) He is from the Pacific Northwest and is not used to the speed of the game.
3) We couldn't run the fricking ball due to our ridiculously bad oline anchored by a Grad Transfer from Rhode fricking Island. Everyone knew when were gonna throw it, cause our all-american rb was getting hit behind the line of scrimmage. The Oline was garbage, and prob one of the worst in the SEC last year.
4) The team lacked leadership. It was truly up to a 18 year olf kid, who prob came to practice daily drinking a monster and smelling his fingers from the previous nights clam jam. Seriously, most QB's get to come in and learn from an expereienced QB who can show them the ropes...Eason got to look up to Lambo...GODAMN LAMBO
5) Our WR were garbage as well...no seperation, getting jammed at the line of scrimmage, none a hair over 5'10". Drops Drops Drops...a couple of those guys need to spend the offseason playing baseball barehanded. They were terrible.
6) Field position. Out ST was a hot pile of shite all year. We routinely ended up with awful field position which effects play calling.
7) And finally...did I mention he was a fricking true freshman. Footwork problems...leading receivers...staring down receivers... indecisiveness, reading defenses and calling audibles..slim to no true frosh qb's come in knowing how to do these things
Give the kid a break..no way anyone can sit on htis forum and say whole-heartedly that Eason is a bad QB after 1 season where the deck was fully stacked against him.
Get out of here with this weak shite

Seriously does anybody remember Stafford as a frosh? Fromm's time is coming but it won't be til 2019, it's unbelievable dawg fans don't believe Eason will grow as a QB.

Agreed. I actually thought Eason did a great job for a true freshman with all the other factors going against him. He showed a lot of poise and was clutch in the 2 minute situations for most of the year.

Because we have some SERIOUSLY reactionary mouthbreathers in our fanbase.

Eason showed more chill in his true freshman year than Murray did his rFr & rSo years, and Murray is the GOAT, with respect to records.

Missouri was his best game by far! Over 300 yards passing and a clutch last second TD pass to IMAC.

I don't remember how many, but he missed on several long passes/TD passes, and pressure wasn't really that much of an issue. His accuracy was an issue all season long, and it never improved.

I don't think you watched the same UGA games the rest of us did.

I'm not sure how you could have watched all the games last season and come away with the impression he regressed. I'm not talking about looking at box scores, I'm talking about how he played.
His passes got sharper, his footwork improved tremendously, he threw off his back foot much less, his ball began to spiral instead of wobble. He did a great job of not throwing picks throughout the season, despite your opinion he was consistently telegraphing his passes.
No doubt he has some things to work on going into this season, namely accuracy, learning when to dial back his throwing velocity, better guiding the receiver on deep balls, consistently step into his throws, and recognizing coverages and identifying mismatches at the LOS.

When the passes are 30 ft over everyone's head then no can catch it, including defenders.
That said, Eason should improve immensely this offsaeson like everyone else has said and I don't see any real situation where Fromm wins the battle because he would likely face many of the same issues. Its a huge adjustment, Eason handled it as well as expected and while he most definitely has a lot to work on this offseason I think he will make a big jump ahead next year

He went for 2400 yds, 55% and a 2-1 TD-INT ratio as a tFr. with the worst OLine we've ever produced and no go-to receiver.
He also led 3 game-winning/go-ahead drives, 2 of which were on the road.

A key thing to remember here is that there really isn't a ton of time to work on mechanics, footwork, etc. during the season. That time has to be spent gameplanning.
If that stuff isn't better in 2017, we may have an issue.

It actually improved a good bit as the completion % proves.
