I have no idea why we did things the way we did, but there's no way you can convince me it would simply be too difficult to add in some packages.

QB options and runs are in the playbook because some time, in some game, the play will work. So they practice those plays nearly every week just in case. So 2 weeks planning would be plenty of time to get them in the game plan and get Bauta some snaps.
Something more was going on with that shite show.

I strongly disagree here. We have 2 full weeks and we're not talking about revamping the entire gameplan, just adding more zone read plays, maybe an option run or 2, a QB draw, something. We had the EXACT same gameplan as if Lambert was in there.

Have you ever been in an option oriented offense? It's not something you pick up in a couple of weeks if you are doing it for the entire 2 weeks. Everything is different. Blocking....everything.
Now, to add just a QB draw or something? yes. Possible. But not read/options.

What's more, in 2005 DJ got hurt in the 2nd quarter against arkansas. With no bye week and only 4/5 days of game prep for UF the next week, we had Joe T run like 6 QB sneaks.

Yeah. That's possible. A QB sneak? Every offense has that, pretty much. You aren't going from a power style offense to an option style. There are huge differences for every player on the field offensively. To go from a primarily stationary QB scheme to a mobile is not an easy transition. I'm not saying it could NOT be done....just saying ti would be very difficult. And if the coaches felt like it might be a one off situation, they would be very hesitant to change the entire scheme for a single game.

However, what we don't know is if they already had a package put in in case Bauta ever was pressed to play. I doubt they did. In fact, I would be shocked if they did. There is a reason it takes the offense a couple of games to start hitting on all cylinders.

I'll put it this way. The college I went to ran a power style offense and we did not have a single option style play in the book. Qb sneaks and QB draws? yes. But no options where the QB would read the LB or DE and decide to hand off, keep or pitch the ball.

Maybe I am misunderstanding what you guys mean?

Read option is run from the shotgun with a single back in a shoulder right or left formation. Some call it wing right or whatever. You run the dive play and if the DE looks to crash the backside, the QB can hold the ball and run to the outside where the DE crashed from. You can also run waggle or bootleg type stuff off th package. It keeps th defense honest and having to play more disciplined. You have to have a QB that can read it and pull. The QB, by proxy, even if he hands it off, blocks th DE by forcing his gap/contain responsibility.

We ran that play for years. The QB just rarely kept it. You can run it with zone blocking or whatever.

Ok. that became popular after I left. I was thinking they were talking about where the QB takes the ball and heads down the LOS with the ball deciding to hand to the FB, keep or pitch.

No. QB rollouts with a run/pass option would have fit for Bauta. 3-4 times in the 1st quarter would have had the defense worried on every snap if only half of them gained decent yardage.
