frick stats! Can you honestly tell me the overall team didn't look better in the last 2 games than they did when Gurley played?

And you honestly think that was due to the best player in the country not playing?

What was it then smart arse? I think everyone was pissed because all the talking heads thought we were a one man team so they decided to prove those idiots wrong.

Agree to disagree. The other kids are at less risk because of their lesser public status, and the risk to the team is less if they get caught. This poor kid would have probably won or finished 2nd for the Heisman, and may have lead us to a National Championship or at least into the playoff. Now we have to try to do that without him.

There is a difference in this poor little college kid and the others.

So you expect him to be held to a higher standard than the rest of the team, but also value the team over all else? Seems a little off.

Seriously, quit twisting the words just to argue. They all have the same standards, as mentioned above, but the consequences are different based on the kids status. I know you can understand this. I am too irritated at the NCAA right now to have a side argument with you on semantics.

Whatever. I just think the holier-than-thou speech from people who more than likely would have done the same thing if given the opportunity at age 20 is hilarious.

No doubt that Gurley knowingly did wrong but it seems UGA always gets punished harder for doing the right thing. How can they expect more institutions to act like UGA when they can take the denial road and get rewarded.

Other players do this all the time. No one ever gets caught so I'm sure Todd thought he was fine, and if this one spiteful FL fan didn't come forward he would have been. Should he have stopped? Yes. But he's being suspended for it. Y'all act like he killed your kids or something and he can never get back in your good graces. He's a 20 yr old kid from a poor community that made a few stupid decisions. What would be more stupid than that would be not to play him once he rejoins the team.

Crow, there is a difference. The ones who were caught and cared served their time and came back. gurley (yes lower case on purpose), did it from day one, was warned (HOW many times?), and continued to do it with a blatant disregard for the rules. Call it what yall will, but it is what it is.

Some are starting to sound an awful lot like barner and free shoes fans...

Well isn't that the message that all amateur football players get? "No I in Team" "Family" etc?

That's the way it's always been with every football team I've ever been a part of.

Was it stupid for him to continue doing with disregard to the warnings?

Do we know that Gurley was suspected and warned specifically, or that he just sat through the NCAA video that every player has to watch every few months? There's a big difference there. The NCAA would view that video as a "warning."

Gurley made a mistake. He's not the first high level college athlete to do so, and he won't be the last. People are making this out to be much more of a character flaw than what it likely is.

He didn't steal from anyone. He didn't rape anyone. He didn't hurt anyone. As far as big picture mistakes a famous 20-year old can make, this is pretty tame.

I would absolutely love to see someone like the "Dateline: To Catch a Predator" guy do an investigative report on the issue of athletes signing for cash. Start with crab leg and work his way toward Tuscaloosa. Show how prevalent it is and the hypocrisy of the NCAA's enforcement.

I suspect that family is the exact motivation behind this whole thing.

Is slowing talking some sense into me. It is common and not nearly as bad as the recent events of other college students.

My melt is over. Above all else, Go Dawgs!!

And if Gurley returns, then Go Gurley!!

Hopefully other kids will learn from this.

AND hopefully, some effort will be made to punish the real criminals out there who will be taking the field Saturday.

If I had an alter, I would be disagreeing with myself.

I apologize for thinking it is ridiculous that UGA should not play Gurley after the suspension is lifted. Would be a great look for recruits and team morale. "We know you served your time for making money off of your name, but we want to sit you for the rest of the season even though you are the best player in college football."

Eta: did you mean to say my head was or wasn't up my arse?
