Yes ....Clemson sure is fortunate that they didn't trash talk and fire their assistant turned head coach within the first few years Dabo was there..... and made "Clemsoning" a household word.

Clemsoning predates Dabo and there was a ton of heat locally and nationally on the hire of Dabo.

Yes ....,and those people look pretty stupid now don't they?
Also I'm not a expert on the subject but you're right that Clemsoning started under Bowden. However it's gained national prominence under Dabo.

Well, he's been there 8.5 years now and other than having the best player in clemson history doesn't have a season with less than 2 losses.
I guess Chizik haters were "right" since Cam got them a title? I'm not sayign dabo sucks, because he clearly doesn't, but it's easy to look good when you have a generational player that can win games on their back. Texas after Vince Young, aTm after manziel, AU after cam, UF after tebow...how did all those turn out?

I guess it depends what their point was... it certainly was valid to say that Clemson didn't need to take a chance on a position coach already on staff, when they could afford and attract a top tier coach.

I agree – but they did and it paid dividends over time...after a few clunky years in the start..... which has been my point about Kirby all along.
Also I'm not so sure that Dabo is going to be one and done once Watson leaves. That team last night played with a ton of intensity on both sides of the ball and I think they can replicate it.

Yep, offense rules if you get a superior QB like Watson and use a system that takes advantage of his dual-threat capability. As someone else said, Watson would have been underutilized in Richt's system.

I don't know. If you want to compare their first 8 years as head coaches:
Richt was 82-22 (79%)
Dabo is 85-25 (77%)
Richt had 2 SEC titles. Dabo has 2 ACC titles.
Richt went to 3 BCS bowls going 2-1. Dabo it's hard to really answer because the BCS is gone but to make it apples to apples let's say he went to 4 BCS bowls going 3-1.
Richt finished ranked all 8 years, 6 of those top 10 finishes, and two top 3 finishes.
Dabo finished ranked 7 years, with 4 top 10 finishes and two top 2 finishes.
However, no I'm not going to say "Dabo is better than richt because he won a title" because is it absolutely NOT an apples to apples comparison. IF the playoffs existed when Richt coached he would have made the playoffs and would have played for a title. If the playoffs didn't exist yet (like they didn't during richt's first 8 years) then Dabo wouldn't have a title or any top 2 finishes either (since both came in the last 2 years)

Watson is not just a superior dual threat QB. He is a VERY unique talent. Look at Alabama. They had a very good dual threat QB and when they lost their all world RB and Clemson stuffed the run he struggled to pass the team down the field. My bet is Bama would have been happier with one of their last few QBs in the game for the second half...

Exactly, people are thinking Clemson is about to go on a bama-like run and that just aint happening.
Hurts is lethal as a runner but he's an average passer at best. plenty of schools have deadly accurate passers that are statues. Watson was a rare blend of being a VERY GOOD/great passer but could also run extremely well. It's not a stretch to suggest he's the best player in clemson's history. You simply don't lose a guy like that and not skip a beat.

That was my thinking too...plus at a school that should be harder to draw talent to than GA.
However...WG did have a point about the playoffs. You can make the argument that UGA would have made the playoffs in 2002 but that was our only 1 loss season. All others had 2 or more so they'd be a stretch...even the 2007 and 2012 years.

Eh, Clemson would have probably gotten in if we still had the old BCS. I'd put Dabo over Richt for now. But like you said, there's a good chance Richt would have won a natty if the playoffs had always been there. With 2002, 2007, and 2012 being the obvious choices
