Somewhat long, but you will want to read

The guy knows how to win and the guy knows how to recruit. He has studied under Saban's tutelage for 10 seasons dating back to the Miami Dolphins. You don't spend every day of the year for 10 years with someone without them rubbing off on you. Nick Saban is the benchmark for everything college football. He is the greatest college football coach of the last 20 years, and Kirby knows Saban's blueprint of success like the back of his hand.

Kirby Smart is a Georgia boy, his father was a high school football coach in Georgia. He has connections in Georgia that no other candidate would dream of having. He has been recruiting this state from Valdosta to Rome to Gwinnett for a DECADE. Tom Herman may have recruited in Metro Atlanta for Ohio State, but I guarantee you he doesn't have the relationships built with HS coaches around the south that Kirby does. You just don't come in and build relationships with HS coaches in a couple months. Smart and Pruitt would be an absolute machine on the road with each other. He will come to Athens and immediately start bringing 5 star guys from places like New Jersey, California, Texas. Richt was a great recruiter, but Smart consistently pulled 5 stars from New Jersey, New York, Illinois, Texas, Calfornia. (Eason, Moreno, Stafford....I know)

He would bring in one of Alabama's guys like Cristobal or Napier and would continue to run the Pro Style that Eason desires to play in. Cristobal is the best OL coach in the country. The 5 star OL's Bama brings in we would begin see come to Athens. Not to mention his best friend Scott Cochran who many have stated is the reason behind the Bama Dynasty. He is the absolute best strength coach in the business, and Alabama fans have already accepted the fact that he is going wherever Smart goes after the season.

Tom Herman is a great hire, however, I fully believe it would be a 2-3 year rebuild. Eason does not fit in Hermans offense. So we would be stuck with Lambert or another grad transfer for next season. Pruitt would also be gone, meaning the majority of our seller recruiting class, Mecole Hardman, Derrick Brown, Rochester, and way too many others to list would fall apart. No matter who Herman brings in as DC they wouldn't build the relationships Pruitt's built for 2 years with theses guys in 2 months he'd have before NSD.

Smart/Pruitt would take Georgia to an elite level, I just hope McGarity realizes that.

Naa,

Herman is the better choice on all accounts. Nice rant though...

Herman has head coach experience and has proven for at least 1 year that he can do it.
11-1.

Herman is the easy choice. Kirby seems to be a perpetual coordinator.

If CMR would have chosen Lincoln Riley as OC last year instead of last item on shelf Xmas eve, Yes.

Kirby, Schotty, Pruitt sounds like a three stooges flick.

Shotty is long gone at this point. He won't be calling plays for us in the bowl game lets just put it that way

I'm on the Kirby train for the exact reasons you stated in the OP. I think Herman would be a solid get but the ties Kirby has to Georgia and the South would immediately put us in a position to actually compete with Bama in recruiting. Herman may be a good coach but who would he bring with him? I think best case scenario is to get Kirby, keep Pruitt, and bring in a good OC.

Good God,just don't understand the freakin recruiting angle as the reason for the. hire.We were already set to have our best back to back recruiting classes in 10 years and our single best recruiting year ever in '16.If recruting is the angle on this we NEVER should have fired our current staff in the first place.

We need someone with HC experience...we cannot afford to have a guy who's learning on the job.

saw this on 247. Another poster confirmed same source same info

quote:

Texted a UGA TE, not naming names. Asked about meeting tonight and thoughts.

Says the gist of the meeting tonight was Richt assuring them he will coach them through the bowl game. All other coaches will know if they are remaining with the team by Christmas Eve. Very heartfelt and a lot of emotion in the meeting. Defensive players are lobbying for keeping Pruitt hard. No names were mentioned for replacement as HC. I asked him what he thinks happens, he says Smart with Napier as OC and Pruitt as DC. Cochran comes.

That's all I got. Take it for what it's worth.

Matches up with IMac's comments about Alabama coaches.

Smart, Napier and Pruitt.

That's pretty close to the holy trinity of southern recruiting.

You've called me an idiot in multiple threads now. Let's hear your ideas for a new HC and his staff.

If you bring up Gruden, Patterson, Briles, or Chip Kelly, or someone else completely unrealistic, you need to seek immediate medical attention.

In a Sunday afternoon press conference , Nick Saban was asked about Kirby Smart and what he thought about him as a potential head coach.

“I’ve said many times before in years past that Kirby has done a fantastic job for us and I think he’ll be an outstanding head coach,” Saban said."Kirby is very capable of doing all the things necessary to be a head coach. He’s a good teacher, players respond to him well. He’s outgoing. He’s got a good personality. I think he’ll do a good job in all the other areas that you’re talking about. I don’t have any question about that at all.”

All signs point to Kirby. AJC article stated that the search centered around Smart and Mullen, with Smart being the top candidate. No mention of Herman

Again... 2 of those candidates are those of who you and the idiots would select... The other 2 would listen if UGA had the balls to speak. Of course you wouldn't think so... you're still in shock and love all the SEC homerism amirite?

Herman makes much more since. UGA needs a CHANGE... Do you fricking understand? A frickING CHANGE.... A f.u.c.k.i.n.g change. He would bring something different not KIRBY frickING MUSCHAMP or any other SEC douchebag. It's not that fricking difficult...
