If Eason was a country boy from Warner Robins, UGA fans would be way more supportive of him. Instead, he's a long-haired dude from the west coast who people want to bench for the local guy.

I've thought that myself. I think a lot of our own fans (who've never heard him open his mouth one time) assume he's just some laissez faire punk and have never really been able to like the guy.

The hatred of Eason is confusing, but then again we did this to Murray for two and a half seasons, so maybe that's just our fan base.

How did he know this?

Fromm was a proficient pocket passer in high school. Eason never threw from the pocket in high school and he was uncomfortable last season.

Post less.

That had nothing to do with the worst offensive line in the SEC did it?

Haha what?

Fromm played in the gun almost exclusively, just like Eason. Both threw from the pocket a ton. Eason was the National Player of the Year as a HS senior. He was more than proficient.

Fromm has never experienced pocket pressure remotely like what Eason saw last year.

He did, and he melted turnovers when it happened.

Maybe some UGA fans think that way, but it's probably not that common. Generally, diehard sports fans (like those who post on message boards) tend toward too much optimism about future results, which means they overestimate the ability of their team, coach, and important players. Those folks are usually complimentary and supportive, regardless of race, creed, religion, or any other demographic variables, and they tend to think that way until results prove them conclusively wrong, and then they begin to change their opinion. I never knew how prevalent fan overconfidence was until I started reading message boards of various football teams.

I'd guess most of Eason's critics on UGA boards fall into two camps. Some are perverse fans of rival schools posing as UGA fans, simply to troll and irritate any UGA fans who see Eason leading us to better outcomes. Others are UGA fans who are skeptical about Eason's talent. It is possible for people to think that without having some bias or ulterior motive, despite your confidence that they're wrong.

Tom Brady is a pocket passer who usually plays from the shotgun. Those two things are not mutually exclusive. When Eason is pressured he takes off running. Fromm is able to move in the pocket to avoid rushers. Eason hasn't shown that ability.

Yeah, people kinda forget the whole not making the playoffs thing. Fromm has to prove he can play with the bright lights on.

And I say all this as someone who thinks he's going to be awesome when he gets his chance.

I'm not confident that they are wrong. I just don't see how people can reasonably conclude that he sucks and will continue to suck based on his freshman season.

"Sucks" is a strong word, but I don't see Eason living up to his 5 star ranking. That could be wrong, but it's not just because it was his freshman year, or because of his OL or receivers. I'm trying to take those things into account, but still come away unimpressed with what I've seen.

If he sang gay country songs and fished while being from GA, he would get the benefit of doubt, but he isn't, so he doesnt.

I have been.

For what it's worth, I hope that Eason proves that I don't know a damn thing.

At this time last year I thought the Falcons had no chance to make the playoffs and I thought Federer was washed up. I'm on a winning streak with my negative attitude so I'm not gonna change.

If Eason had a hot mom I'd give him a pass.

Seems like making a pass at the mom would be better, but hey, if you swing that way....

bullshite, this board is tough on all our QBs. I bet if we had a QB who broke the SEC record for all time passing yards people would be hard on that guy too.

Guido from Tampa. Same problem.
