BS question. Apertures are measured in f-stops, not mm's. And it wouldn't produce a FOV, it would be DOF.

You got me on the f-stop, but I work with video and we don't talk much about f-stop.

And a FOV is produced, as well as a DOF.

Again, in video, we don't work much with DOF. We aren't trying to sell hydrangias in Southern Living.

Knew photo dawg would know that one

Not a professional by any measure. I did know these things as my class is pretty basic and I do teach them to shoot Manual and in RAW. I realized I didn't know what he was talking about, an was wondering if it was something I was not familiar with.

That said, there are ways to calculate how the Aperture and shutter speed interact with the focal point, so I thought that was what he was talking about. Since I am not a pro, I never learned how to do the calculations.

I pretty much decide the kind of DOF I want, (Or the effect from shutter speed, look at the metering system in the camera and adjust either the aperture or shutter speed to get the proper exposure.

(I also figured he was talking about the focal point when he was using MM.)

What is FOV, Deeprig? I admit I have never heard of it and again figured you fat fingered DOF. I am guessing it applies more to video, too.

I wasn't referring to you with the photo dawg part.

Shooting in RAW format made the biggest difference in my pictures.
I have seen some pros that my pictures are better than theirs, but I am retired and do photography for fun and to help people out. I have done senior pics for some of the youth in our church that could not afford to have senior pics otherwise. I've been asked to do several weddings, but usually turn them down. We did have a couple in the church that would not have had pictures if I had not done them because of cost. I did theirs. I had some developed and put them in an album for them. I just don't care for the pressure/stress of a wedding, though. You mess that up and people tend to get a little testy!
