No, I'm actually not. I certainly understand that someone who lives in Rome may think UT is our biggest rival, or someone in Columbus with AU, or Valdosta with UF, or Augusta with SC, etc. I've lived in Birmingham for 2 years and I cannot express how much I fricking hate alabama. But just because I despise them doesn't make them our biggest rival.

I'm not speaking for WG_Dawg's personal opinion, or yours, or any man's..I'm saying what is the case for the University of Georgia. UGA's biggest rival is Georgia tech, period. There is no debate. We can discuss til the cows come home why each of our opinion's on the matter is right or wrong, but tech is UGA's biggest rival. They have been since we first started playing football and they always will be.

What if they're from Augusta, is Carolina now our biggest rival? UGA's (the school) biggest rival doesn't change based on where one of its fans happens to reside at the moment.

It'd be like choosing what is better between:

-a day off work, playing golf, watching sports, eating 5 star meals for all 3 meals, cashing a $50,000 check, drinking the finest alcohol, not getting nagged by a woman, and having unlimited sex during the day, or

-watching a good movie

Yeah both are good obviously, and both would be enjoyable. But I mean if we're talking about which one is the better day it's pretty obvious there's really only one right answer

I think it depends on age and location
For me Florida is our biggest while Tech is our second

So Claude Felton has asked you to speak on the University's behalf?

UGA's biggest rival is Georgia tech, period. There is no debate

Then why is less than two pages, there is already dissent as to who the biggest rival is?

There is a correlation between the Yankification of GA... Specifically, ATL, and those who think UF is our biggest rival. On behalf of generations of men who built this fine University, I piss in your general direction...

I do due to our history and proximity to Athens. SC can't satisfy their recruiting needs so they look to Georgia and Florida to supplement. As such our recruiting targets overlap often.

I hate no college team playing today worse than I hate UF

as the dude said earlier there are no teams i'd rather beat than UF but i'd rather lose to just about any team than Georgia Tech. beating UF is great, losing to GT is unacceptable and it's an unmitigated hell in this state when they get their once a decade win in. losing to UF doesn't even get you canned here, but lose to GT and who gives a shite what ponzi scheme you and adams have running, you're toast

i think most in my age range like you think this way but i was raised with a more classical school of thought and because of that GT will always be #1. that's what i was taught and what i experienced. UF going on a run for 2 decades killed that perception.

i mean it takes a special kind of hate to continue to dislike your rival that has one win in recent memory

Correct answer.

Tech, as long as we play, will always be our biggest rival.

If Auburn were in the East, they would be above UF.

In my formative years, it was Tech, Auburn, then Florida. There was no debate. The rivalry with Florida increased because of the split into divisions to a point where they are now ahead of Auburn.

Having said that, my personal hatred was and will always be pointed towards Auburn. But, overall, Tech is the schools biggest rival, no question.

For most of my lifetime, the Cocktail Party has had conference title implications riding on it in some way, shape or form, while we have basically been able to name the score against Tech. UGA/UF games have been nasty, mean and very highly competitive (besides a few years in the mid 90s). The Tech games have generally been over at halftime. So yes, you are going to get some younger people who feel like Florida is a bigger rival. The happiest I've ever been after a UGA win was the Florida game this season and the most pissed off I've been after a loss was the 2008 GT game.

If GT ever brings a top 5 team into Athens and we have one too, it'd be one of the biggest events the state has ever seen.

Since I have no Yankee blood and I am not from ATL I have no idea what you are talking about and thus I fart back into your general direction.

This is the main point some people can't seem to grasp. You can hate about 20 other teams more than you hate tech, but still recognize that they're our biggest rival.

A rival isn't formed in the last x amount of years, it starts from the beginning. I know it's ancient history now, but tech was a pretty good team up until about the 1960s. We had many important games with them back in the day. At the same time, we absolutely owned florida until 1990. Think about the 4-20 or whatever the frick it is now streak, and yet we STILL lead the all time series by like 8. That should show you how lopsided it was before spurrier. UF has always been a major rival, but we looked at them for 50 years the way they look at us now (or at least until 2 or 3 years ago I guess).

To give ya'll an indication about where Tech ranks, UGA retired Theron Sapps jersey for the sole fact that he scored the winning touchdown against Tech, which ended a seven year losing streak against them. Sapp was an average player, you probably would never have heard of him had he not scored that touchdown. Some of you probably have never heard of him anyway.

Thus ends my history lesson for today.

Tech was started by a UGA grad and over the years, kids from wealthy families went to UGA while the kids of their servants and hired help went to Tech to learn to be factory workers. It used to be a big rivalry. Think of those 80s movies...remember Dukie? he hated UGA... The problem now is the Asian population just does not hate UGA as much as the son of a UGA grads car mechanic. Thus, the rivalry has lost some of its luster, but make no mistake, Tech is our biggest rival...

We should treat them as a rival. We compete for the same kids and we all know, our recruiting needs to tic upward. I still remember Butler's 63.5 yard field goal.
