If we're going to make rings for winning the SEC East then I don't see why not.

While I agree that we shouldn't, I don't think we should be so dismissive either.

Well if that's the criteria then why not retire #14 as well? Greene set school, SEC, and national records as well, and won our first SEC title in 20 years. So if Murray were to be retired simply for winning one SEC title and setting records, why not Greene?

I guess what I'm saying is, why Murray, aside from the 'right now' factor that he's currently playing? What would make the #11 so special (given the criteria above) above all the rest that also won titles and broke records? Heismans and/or a natty totally changes the equation btw.

What about Pollack? 3 time all american and won just about every award a defensive player could get.

Pollack would have a much more legit claim to Murray, given the above scenario. I'd still lean no though on Pollack. At this point, I think it should be reserved for heisman and/or national title winners.

Defensive players don't win Heismans. I don't know what else Pollack could have possibly done. He deserves to have his number retired more than probably any other player since Herschel.

If we're talking about achievements among players, then absolutely. I don't see how anyone could deny that. But what makes him "deserve" to have his number retired? This is UGA, there are going to be A LOT of players to win national awards, and set school records, and win SEC titles, and become All Americans. Hell we've got a few of those caliber players in our backfield in 2013. But retiring a number is frickin permanent, it's serious business. It should be reserved for the absolutely elite of the elite (again Sapp notwithstanding), and I don't think we should take that route unless someone either wins a Heisman or leads us to a national title.

I think a 3 time All American is much more elite than a Heisman trophy.

It's awesome, absolutely. I just don't know if I'd want it to be retirement-worthy. But I agree that he's the most worthy since HW for that honor. By a longshot, actually.

I don't understand the UGA fans who demand something from our team or a player, then it actually happens, then they dismiss it or forget about it or play it off as a fluke.

Nice bump dickhead. But lets actually read what was written in the thread and not just go based on the title. I assume you can read, right?

I think we definitely do if we win it all. SEC only would be a tough call, but I'd say probably not. Wouldn't be mad if we did though.

No way! That's absurd. Greene was a better QB. You really want to put AM in the elite list of Dawgs with retired numbers? I thought you appreciated tradition, K9! Pull it together, bro. Win a Heisman and an MNC and then MAYBE!!

No. 3 reasons.
1. Murray is an overrated QB and will not end up winning shite!
2. What if the top recruit in the nation wanted #11 and every other school offered it. Give him #11 to get him on board. It's called recruiting.
3. You need to be an icon to have your jersey retired, bottom line!

I'm also sure you can read that most if not any want his jersey retired unless he does win a Heisman and a natty. But please keep acting like people want his jersey retired now.
