Yeah I had to read that a few times to grasp that. The last few posts in this thread

I agree partly with the defense was exposed against good teams thing. It's really hard to have a good defense when your offense does nothing the whole game.

Hard? Sure. But if he's the second fricking coming of the greatest DC ever, I would have expected the amazing defensive team he's put together and coached could either a) stop Treon Harris or b) not give up a 20+ point lead... Can forgive the Bama loss as I think the Defense stepped up huge up until the S/T breakdown when they broke the team's will. But the UT/UF losses were atrocious and equally bad performances on both sides of the field (relative to expectations at that point).

Was hearing stuff today that Pruitt was really, really, really disliked by pretty much everyone but the players. Right or wrong, it just goes to show that how you act will have consequences.

Most of the problems with this coaching staff appears to have been with the likable, non challenging coaches (HC, offense and SPs.

But if he was the best Defensive Coordinator available...and in fact already in place...don't you retain him? After all, isn't his performance evaluation based on improving the defense, player performance in games, and recruiting?

If the issue is simply that Pruitt is very opinionated and abrasive, that makes me worry that Smart didn't retain him because Smart can't handle him and is too insecure to deal with someone like that... Is Kirby known to be wimpy or conflict avoidant?

On the other hand, it could be way beyond just opinionated and abrasive. Maybe Pruitt is really a major a-hole...personality disorder...management problem. Maybe he's just poison to a staff, wherever he goes. But if that's his rep...would Saban really want to hire such a person?

Y'all are making this way too complicated. New coaches pretty much always want their own staff. Pruitt is a divisive dude. That was good for the past two years when shite got stale. That's not good anymore.

It's much easier for Saban to deal with that as an established coach. Those players aren't loyal to Pruitt.

There are other good coaches.

We had to suffer through Martinez and then Graham...and then finally got a DC who seemed pretty good. So understandably, letting him go is a bit frustrating if it's mostly about egos.

Unless of course Smart has some other up and coming rock star in mind.....

Lost to all 3 teams with a pulse that we played this year.

Nope Richt lost us those 3 games. Richt also cost us on D with his recruiting and kicking off of players. Pruitt had to work with the leftovers and I think he did a damn good job considering. I love how the Richt supporters want to blame everyone but the guy in charge. Richt is responsible for UGA for having no QB since Murray left, and that is part of the reason why he got FIRED!
