quote: Beasley is a part time player that has question marks which is unacceptable at #8. How the hell is 1,421 snaps, 48 games played, and 25 starts (every game his junior and senior year) considered "part time"?? College games average 60-70 snaps, so about 35 defensive snaps on average per game. 12x35=420, or 455 with a bowl game. He played in 48 games and averaged 30 snaps per game. He played 1,421 fricking snaps, got 52 tackles for loss, 33 sacks (25 in his last 2 years), 29 QB pressures, 11 pass breakups, 7 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries(both TD's), in addition to 90 tackles. Which means 58% of his tackles went for a loss. "Part time and question marks..." my arse. Please, explain these so called question marks and exactly how 30 snaps a game is some how part time.
Have you seen his tape? I don't give a frick how many plays he's on the field if he's NOT actually PLAYING while he's out there. You run the ball at him and he stands around pretending to be blocked.
He can't play on 1st down. If you can't play on 1st down you're a part time player.

I agree with this assessment. He struggled against the run in college, that will not change at the NFL level. It's not a good value for a top 10 pick.
I would rather have taken Shelton to help our horrid run defense AND add more of an interior pass rush, and then hope to land Harold in the 2nd round to help with the outside pass rush.

Supposedly Beasley admitted to taking plays off in college during his introductory press conference with the Falcons today. That's a step in the right direction.

Yeah I don't know what you're talking about, dallas. 7 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks against UGA in the last two years we played Clemson. As a pass rushing OLB, he's clearly done his job against top tier college power-5 conference talent.

You have no fricking clue what you're talking about. The LEO in a 4-3 under defense is NOT a run stuffing specialist. If the LEO is getting 1 sack, 2-3 QB pressures, and 2-3 tackles for loss, he's doing an incredible job. He's having a pro-fricking-bowl NFL year, in fact.
16 sacks, 45 tackles, 30 tackles for loss, 30 QB pressures, 5 pass defenses, and 4 forced fumbles is a got damned pro-bowl OLB.
Stop saying stupid shite.

He DOES play on 1st down. You saying he doesn't is nonsense.
Again, he's the 4th/5th man on any DL. He's outside the DE and 2 DT's in a 9-technique. His area of run coverage is TINY. He's got 3 run-stuffers inside him on the DL and a MIKE LB covering the B and C gaps next to him.
His freaking JOB is not to stop the run.

Don't get me wrong, Imma pullin' for him & hope he's gold. Quinn, as one of the best DC's out there liked what he saw and wanted him & that's enough for me...
He's got hella upside, talent & all the measurables but dominate in '13 & '14 he wasn't, IMO...
But my opinion & a $1 will buy you a shitty cup of coffee, & FWIW I defer to your expertise in NFL convo cause you know more about it & follow it a hella lot closer than me....
Just being "that guy"...

BeefDawg you can eat a fat one. You use raw numbers like a Democrat. Watch tape.

Dude, I'm a Molon Labe, NRA card carrying member, don't tread on me, hardcore Constitutionalist.
I use facts to back up my words.
And I'd bet dollars to donuts that you haven't watched one bit of Vic Beasley's "tape", except for probably 2 freaking YouTube video's about 30 minutes ago.
The numbers are there to support his capabilities. I don't give a shite if you think you saw him taking plays off somewhere. If he averages a sack a game, 2-3 tackles for loss, and 2-3 QB pressures, he's making plays and doing an incredible job. Plays "taken off" or not.
When your college stats and measurables are better than the college stats and measurables of guy's like Bruce Irvin and Von Miller, you're a damn good football player.

Beasley was drafted to go get the QB in a division with Brees, Newton and Winston. Falcons needed a pass rusher. He was the best one on the board and one of the 2-3 best in the draft. The two that were better went ahead of him. If you're hoping for Lawrence Taylor or JJ Watt, you'll be disappointed. If you're looking for someone to make Drew Brees very, very uncomfortable twice a year, he'll get the job done.

I hear ya, bro. It's all good. Trust a brutha. Quinn got the perfect guy for his scheme.

Given everyone's comments here I wonder if it would be a legitimate business model for a southern NFL team to favor players from high profile local colleges. It's no secret that the south is dominated by college athletics so why not try to tap into this in your particular region? How much more interesting would the Falcons be if there were a few high profile UGA players on the roster?
I realize this flies in the face of conventional thinking as regards player selection but it's all about loyalty and butts in the seats, right?

There's an old saying, "Winning fixes everything."
It's all about money, yes, but winning directly correlates to money. And winning isn't based on popularity.

Falcons pick WR Justin Hardy ECU... Solid...
Posted on 5/2/15 at 11:50 am to dallasga6
Hardy is only 5'10, but has arms and hands the size of someone 6'5 LOL.
32" arms and 10" hands. That's crazy. He runs a 4.56, which is still pretty good. He ran the fastest 3-cone of all WR's at the entire combine, so his quickness and agility is apparently very high.

Watched him some in college and I remember thinking that he is very good. Solid pick IMO.

Very solid draft thus far. I'm glad we have a running back that has the speed to take it to the house given a crease.
Posted on 5/2/15 at 12:05 pm to AllDawg
Yeah I'm pleased thus far as well. Much better than the Saints draft lol.

We just traded up for Clemson DT Grady Jarrett in back end of 4th round.
Jarrett was one of my mock picks because he's an exact clone of Brandon Mebane in Seattle, so I had a notion Quinn might want him.
