Offered D-T QB Gerry Bohanon

I would love to see us put the full court press on Fields, out of HHS. I think he'll end up being better than Emory Jones.

I agree that Hayes has potential. But so did Catalina.

I think as fans we always want to pump our guys up. We were getting a senior transfer to step in a LT and the guy looked like a damn bulldozer, but the reality is he simply wasn't very good. I looked at some of his bio on the RI site and the only items of note were as a RSSoph he 3rd team all Colonial Ath Assn, and in '15 as a RSJr he was 2nd team all CAA. Guy couldn't even make all conference in the colonial. Compare that to Hayes who is the 2nd ranked JUCO OT that has likely played against better copmetition than RI. He had offers from 3 other SEC schools plus Louisville.

Of course we could be falling victim to the same as we did with TC, but just looking objectively at boht of their resumes prior to playing at UGA, it looks clear that Hayes is probably the better guy.

A thing about Catalina is that he was NFL big and NFL strong. By the end of the season he was actually pretty damn good at run blocking. All Season, he was a huge liability in pass Pro. Bringing in a Juco will most definitely improve the pass protection. But there is no guarantee that the run-blocking will be better. If we can't run better against stacked boxes and in the Red Zone, we will absolutely struggle to beat Georgia Tech. We will struggle to beat Auburn. We will struggle to beat Notre Dame. We will struggle to beat Mississippi State. Fix the run-blocking, and it will feel like Bobo OC all over again putting up points and winning games big.

Agreed

Supposedly he's got a real shot of being drafted by the MLB too, though.

Stetson Bennett

He upholds the Georgia tradition of QBs who have two last names, so there's that. ??

Yeah, with Fields it's all going to come down to what sport he loves more. McIlwain, a QB at USC, was rated the #8 baseball prospect by Baseball America and was essentially a lock to go in the top10-15 picks, but wanted to play football. He's also playing for USC's baseball team while in school. It really comes down to what sport he loves more and what his family's situation is.

If you have the ability to throw the ball and protect the passer the defense can't be as aggressive with the box.

Since teams have started counting box play calling has become more liberal in the red zone. Bobo was a perfect example of this but he was hated for it even though it gave the team the best chance to be successful.

We also have never been a team with the threat of a running. QB so they don't have to stack the box to out number the offense.

I know some people in this thread have complained about our current lack of top 10 in-state commitments. This time last year, Bailey Hockman was one of the top QBs in the nation (finished outside the top247, Tony Grey was considered a can't miss prospect (UGA and USC said no, he wound up at Ole Miss), Gibbs was considered a "Vol lock" by everyone, and Fromm and Johnson were both Bama commits.

The top prospects will change a lot between now and the end of summer as they are evaluated and scrutinized more in-depth; Also, once their junior film comes out is really analyzed. Our staff is also full of top notch recruiters and there's plenty of time to work some of the guys that we really want. Not saying we'll get them all (2018 is pretty thin in Ga), but we'll get more than our fair share that we really pursue.

We're going to be in play for some big time out of state guys. Plus, there's a few outstanding OLinemen in GA that could really boost our future at that spot.

This is a depth year, and it could be a really good one if Kirby is as good as he has been on the trail so far.

I haven't heard a lot of movement on the TE front for us in this coming class. Bama just had a 4* TE decommit last week. Anybody know of someone on Kirby's radar? Nauta will be a rising Jr, Jackson Harris will likely have graduated/transferred, and isn't Blaze a Sr this year?

I think he meant by the time the 2018 class arrives on campus Nauta will be entering his junior year.
