yeah I dunno man I think you are having some short term memory loss.

Last year he did not understand the basics of being a WR in Sumlin's system and he still made plays. He also in my opinion is a more deadly (and intelligent) return man thank Kirk. Last year speedy was as cold as ice on returns - he always knew when to hold em and when to fold em and he kept a very level head. He can make big plays and he has a very high general football IQ. He just is unfamiliar with core receiver concepts in our system and that slowed him a step or two last year. This year he's ready and just needs to get healthy enough to make moves. He will. And it will be awesome.

Kirk is like a solid 10 yards per, better than speedy at returns.

Punt returns, but not kickoff if recall.

And a couple of those really good returns Kirk has had were because speedy actually laid a solid block for him to clear the path. I can't remember what game it was but Kirk ripped a 45-50 yard return off more than once and speedy had laid a huge block to open the gap.

The long one I remember with speedy blocking he ran with him the whole way and never blocked anyone. I think speedy is a stud but he's not nearly as good as Kirk on returns, or catching the ball, or running routes, or YAC. He's probably not a better blocker either, and definitely doesn't understand the offense as well.

So what's the deal with Speedy now? Will he be back this weekend, and will he be full strength?

Kirk averages 27 and 21 in punt/kick

Speedy averaged 12 and 24 last year.

So right now noil has the edge in KR, but That's pretty skewed from kirks 0 yard freshman mistake

Speedy is not better than Kirk when it comes to anything involving football. Well except for speedy's ability to get a jump ball. He's better at that. To be fair though, Speedy was grossly misused last year. Speedy is a dang good player but Kirk is just better. I dream of the day we see speedy on one side and Kirk on the other being used in the same way and completely destroying defenses. I dream...

Well his freshman mistake is in part on me of my points - speedy was really composed as a true fish and I don't recall any errors on KR/PR with him other than not finishing that one return for a touchdown.

Kirk is a beast in YAC, but I would disagree that he catches the ball better the speedy. They are either equal or speedy is slightly better.

The one I remember with speedy blocking Kirk got the ball, speedy ran ahead of him from the other side of the field and made a good block that opened up another 15 yards for Kirk to run.

Kirk has much better hands than speedy. I would bet speedy had more drops at this point in the season than Kirk will probably have all year, with a huge percentage more targets for Kirk.

Speedy and Kirk play extremely different positions. Kirks position is conducive to getting a short pass and making big gains in the YAC. Speedys is more akin to making big leaps/plays and coming down with a catch. I just don't agree in comparing drops when speedys throws are often inherently more difficult to catch

And again, Kirks position is one that will probably get 2-3 times the throws his way as compared to speedy. That is the nature of the position, similar to Kennedy getting so many catches in previous years as well as Swope. Tmc has said this before as well.

Therein lies the problem imo. They are the same player. They are both very good with the ball in their hands in open space. I don't understand the whole send speedy up the sideline and have him try and jump over someone to make a catch. Yeah, he's well above average at that but he's much better at creating plays in the open field I think. Idk, I just like big receivers on the outside trying to get the ball over guys they have a sizable advantage on. Not 6 foot receivers. Him & speedy working the slots is ideal.

Okay, I'm done. Lol

They are but speedy' problem was the position he should really play is arguably the most complex of the four. Kirk has played a similar position for a long time so it's natural to him. He understands how to get himself into open space and create plays and he's a great athlete.

Speedy has a place in this offense and he shouldn't be sold short. He nearly had 600 yards of receiving last year in what apparently was a Shiite year for him. Kirk is doing better but that is in part because of the position he plays and his familiarity with that position. In terms of just understanding the game of football, I still think speedy may be one of the most intelligent on our team.

Kirk would go to NFL training and just watch guys run routes. He's on another level. Guy watches as much film as Spav. He gets to play that position because he came to us knowing how to do it. Speedy has to play outside because he doesn't know as much as Kirk about the WR position... and when he graduates he probably still won't. Kirk is Andrew Carnegie, Speedy is some clerk in the mail room.

Evans is/was better than any WR y'all currently have but Kirk is rapidly closing the distance between the two groups.
