Will history look kindly on a lot of those teams. The Shaq-Kobe Lakers? Sure. They won 3 titles and had 2 top 20 players. One of the best teams ever. The Suns? That was a nice experiment, but they weren't great. Pistons? The starless champs. Interesting, but Ben Wallace and Sheed aren't exactly scream Ewing & Oakley. Bron and Cleveland 1.0 was hot garbage. LeBron wasn't matured and they surrounded him with a team that only won 19 games without him. Griz... solid team but no one will remember them in 10 years. Did SA ever beat the Lakers & Kobe when they got good again? Heatles won 2/4 and went 1-1 vs SAS. Pretty studly that Timmy & Co go them, but they still won their 2.

I would probably take a few of the LAL & MIA teams over SAS's best years, but what is impressive is that they lasted all those damn years.

And the narrative that entire three years was he'll never win a championship because the organization isn't committed to winning. Spurs broke their arse

and even then, still went on to beat the spurs the next year on the way to an NBA finals appearance. people generally dont associate the spurs with ending that era as they do with the 2004 finals and subsequent shaq trade coupled with phil stepping down

i guess it depends on what your definition of when our run ends. if you look at it as legit title contenders, it ends in 2011. if you want to look at it in regards to how we ended up in the standings, its ends in 2012. if you want to look at it in regards to the perception of us being good, it ends in 2013. from 2008-2012 we played the spurs once and beat them but they beat us in 2013. so, depending how you want to gauge when our second run ended, they did once. however, i personally believe dallas ended our second run in 2011

uhhhh no

that just is what it is. you can say the spurs outlasted the runs all you want, but they never were the ones to actually end either and they barely played a role at all in the second run

Yet that Cavs team swept the Spurs in the 07 regular season

Only had the 2008 series against them.

And the fact that the lakers had to "get good again" and still faded back into irrelevance again before Timmy hung 'em up bolsters my point.

Which makes SA literally breaking them up even more impressive.

Color me shocked.

Also, interestingly enough, Mavs and Spurs are both 1-1 overall all time vs. MIA in the Finals.

Yes, I rooted for Miami in 2006. I was salty

I am excited about D'Antoni because if we're gonna suck I at least want us to suck by losing 140-150 every night.
