I don't want to come across like I hate Carson. He's not a liability at anything. He's just not particularly good at anything either and he needs to start finishing runs. Turning sideways every time he gets hit leaves tons of yards on the field and makes him exceptionally easy to tackle. A back his size you would expect him to break tackles but he never does and this is why.

Have we been watching the same guy? I know Carson's not that fast or agile, but he's been trucking defenders all year.

He's "trucked" two defenders that I've seen. He isn't a violent runner.

I disagree. He simply refused to go down when we played ASU and ground out extra yards all night.

He's hard to bring down but he's not a violent runner. I like him and give him props for doing a really good job.

I'm glad we have him, he does what asked of him. He's willing to run it 10 times and catch it 10 times if we need him to, or carry it 25 times depending on the game. Is he as good as Cyrus Gray or Christine Michael? Probably not, but the kid puts great effort out there every snap.

He was a good safety valve in the Arky game. We need some speed back there though.

To answer the "last great RB" question...

In the last decade I'd rank them:

Christine Michael
Cyrus Gray
Michael Goodson
JLane
Malena
Carson
Courtney Lewis

There is not even 1 reason to put C-Mike ahead of Gray.

Michael at least has an NFL career?

Gray was more consistent. Michael had more talent.

Doesn't Gray still play for Kansas City?

3rd round that SEA gave up on. Around 25 more carries than Gray had in his time in the NFL. I guess its slightly better.

You can win this argument. The best of A&Ms mediocre RBs is an argument I'm fine losing.

The thing is Cyfy wasn't mediocre. He was one of the best A&M backs of all time.

He gained 1,133 yards in 2010. Here are players with more rushing yards in a single season Lewis, Manziel, Hill, Smith, Woodard, & Dickey. Here are players that aren't McElroy, Hall, Lane, Michael, C Lewis, Malena, Crow, Bean, Vick, and everyone else that has ever played at A&M.

But it wasn't just 1 season. He had over 1000 in 2011 too. He's #3 all time for rushing yards at A&M behind only Lewis & Dickey. He's #5 all time for TDs from a RB.

Cyrus Gray owned, he was perfect for Sherman's offense. He would jog in the backfield forever watching blocks develop and then spot a lane nobody else saw for an inexplicable first down. Must have been infuriating for opposing fans.

Carson is very solid back. Dolezal is shifty and could get some more reps. We all seem to have in mind a more purely balanced running back is the answer. In the meantime, it might be fun to put Kyler in the backfield to see what he could do. I imagine we could get some interesting plays in motion.

I guess I say mediocre because we just haven't had an all American type of player at RB. I'm not knocking Cyrus. I'd love to have a back with his work ethic and consistency today.

I loved Cyrus. How many consecutive 100-yard games did he have in 2010?
C-Mike made me say really bad things in the presence of women and children. He's on the top of my list of what-could-have-been players.

Its not about winning and losing. Why would anyone not like a post about Cyrus?
