Per BR

1. Alabama: Kiffin/Pruitt
2. Texas A&M: Mazzone/Chavis
quote:

Kevin Sumlin is entering a crucial year at Texas A&M that could make or break his job status. Fortunately for him, Sumlin can rely on the expertise of two veteran coordinators, Noel Mazzone and John Chavis, who have a lot of talent to work with in College Station.

Mazzone was hired this offseason to replace Jake Spavital after a huge downturn in offensive production. Bleacher Report's Barrett Sallee called Mazzone, who got his first experience as offensive coordinator at the college level in 1995 with Ole Miss, "a perfect fit" for the Aggies. He helped UCLA's offense smash numerous school records in what was one of the best four-year stretches in the program's history with his motion-heavy, zone-running scheme.

Then there is Chavis, one of the most respected names in all of coaching. The former Tennessee and LSU defensive coordinator helped the Aggies improve from 97th to 51st nationally in yards allowed per play and 77th to 28th in points allowed per game in the first year after his big-money move to College Station. With seven starters returning in 2016, including superstar end Myles Garrett, Texas A&M could be in for a huge defensive season.

3. OU: Riley/Stoops
4. Stanford: Bloomgren/Anderson
5. ND: Sanford/VanGorder
6. Clemson: Scott/Venables
7. UF: Nussmeier/Collins
8. Michigan: Drevno/Brown
9. LSU: Cameron/Aranda
10. UH: Applewhite/Orlando

Dude, I am right with you, I loathe Sumin and everyone knows it, but our failure last year was predicated on three things that are ABSENT OR FIXED this year:

1) That idiot child OC we had, who took a system that worked (KKs derivative of the Air Raid) and bastardized it until it wasn't a "system" at all anymore and was neutered of all the things that has made it successful (hurry up was replaced with "check with me"; simple, repetitive concepts were replaced with complex West Coast plays), which combined with his terrible play-calling made us ineffective on offense, is gone. I don't think Mazzone is the second-coming or anything, I'm not a huge fan of the hire, but the man is an accomplished, adult, professional OC who runs a hurry up spread offense based on simple concepts executed to perfection, which is what worked for us under KK.

2. Turner is back as OL coach. Won't result in immediately having the best OL in college again, but it will arrest our collapse from best to among the worst and shore-up a unit that was our Achilles' heel last year.

3. Our crybaby, Millennial, locker-room cancer QBs are gone. Kyle has a baby face and a weak mentality and he collapsed under pressure. Kyler is a brat who everyone hated - a deal with the devil who undermined the whole team. Trevor Knight isn't all-world, but he doesn't have to be. We will be much better just by having a man in that job who wants to be a leader instead of a war between spoiled kids - no more divided locker-room, no more having to play a 5'5" preteen who doesn't know the offense, no more pouting on the sidelines.

this is the only hope i have right there. He is the first non-spoiled kid to suit up at QB i know of since JJ (i liked Tannehill, but upon further visiting with Big Spring peeps, he wasn't a jerk, but he was kinda pretentious and full of himself. nobody had BAD things to say, just that he wasn't a very humble guy)

What does last year have to do with what I posted?

Moving positions for the good of the team speaks to some amount of humility, wouldn't you say?

And I don't recall any reports of him bitching about not getting to play (when it was obvious the starter in front of him wasn't going to cut it)

He wasn't AS humble as JJ, who is a salt of the earth guy, but he wasn't a jerk or a locker-room problem. I don't want a nice guy at QB, I just want someone who is mature, is a team player, and can lead. I'd say that Knight is the first guy we've had since Tannehill who fits that mold.

Since Tannehill, we've had:
- The GOAT college QB, but he was a Kardashian
- A drunk
- Babyface Nelson
- Tyrion Lannister

Just having a normal guy with a protypical QB body, who has hit puberty, who doesn't have a substance abuse problem is a relief.

I love how this has become the narrative. Only our fanbase could spin the loss of two (plus Martell) five star QBs as a positive.

With Kyle Allen we would be a real contender this year, and he left because he was treated like dogshit and thrown under the bus by this program.

A drunk

He wasn't a drunk, he partied a lot and when things went south he was thrown under the bus to avoid blaming Spav/Sumlin. The 2014 collapse had little to do with Kenny Hill and everything to do with defenses figuring out Spav.

The fact is only Kyler Murray was truly a shithead who needed to go. A competent coach keeps Hill and Allen and were stacked at QB.

He was captured in pictures on multiple occasions passed out in public.

He was confirmed to have been drinking heavily nights before games.

I mean, I think you are mincing word here. "He wasn't a drunk, he just partied a lot" is like saying "he doesn't speed, he just likes to test the limits of his automobile". They're synonymous.

Kyle Allen had the tools but he was emotionally weak and it resulted in inconsistency. He got caught up in his own head. He also liked to pout. Our staff did him ZERO favors, but he looks 15 and acts like it. Next!

thank you. Before he disagreed with himself, he actually stated the problem with Allen better than I did.

I attack this staff with vigor, on the reg, but Martell was let go. We stopped actively recruiting him because he isn't a fit for Mazz's system. To act like we "lost" him is disingenuous.

The story had grown so out of control over the last 2 years

He was drinking the Thursday before games, not the night before, he was caught ONCE passed out in public and pretty much everything stems from that incident.

Now he was doing shots during pregame and was passed out every night
