Carried signs to and from all my classes today. Got nothing but Good Bulls from Students AND faculty...
Stood on University by Murphy building between class and got dozens of war hymn honks.
The public has spoken.
Viva la T Star

school seals typically have nothing to do with branding, and they especially have nothing to do with emblems worn on athletic jerseys.
The BOR should find something else to screw up.

Don't tempt them! They'll damn sure do it. To me the problem isn't so much the change (though it's a needless one and the cartoonish logo is out of place, but maybe that's just me), it is the tone deafness of the BOR. 12 empty seats, anyone? They badly need somebody in the "Aggie Nation" to tell them what's up before they vote on this kind of stuff. A good place to start would be telling them the next member that refers to Aggies as the "Aggie Nation" will be immediately drawn-and-quartered. And then shot for good measure.

this whole thread has had me cracking up
Why do you care about the seal at all? Because it represents A&M. That's branding. You don't like the seal and want the University seal to be more "classic". That too is branding!
Saying the University Seal has nothing to do with branding is akin to declaring the sky is green. Everything the University presents to the world is part of its brand. The Seal is not some magic entity, it's no more than a symbol used in that presentation. Branding is literally the only reason anyone cares about this at all.

tmc94 wants to get rid of that old, gawdy star on your ring. Turn 'em in for the new improved version!

The NEW & IMPROVED Aggie Class Ring! 'Cause, you know, branding

I'm not an alum and I don't like the new one (aand Tbird not just because of the stupid bevel) it looks cartoonish.

Used to rock a T-Star visor the whole time I was in school. I do get that logos have to be like the Highlander, there can be only one.

Stryker, that's fantastic.
Is there a beveled option too?

That's not really true. I care about this only because the BOR is oblivious to what students and former students want. This is the same attitude that brought us the 12 empty seats, possibly the worst idea in the history of bad ideas. Those guys are completely out of touch.

And list eater in the war hymn statue as well...

I figured some actually cared and this isn't all schtick but I completely thought you were being schtick-y
maybe they are, maybe they aren't. But it really has nothing to do with this. If every single student and alum wanted the old logo, it'd still be the wrong decision to split our brand.
The only thing changed here was removing our old, retired logo from the seal with our current logo. The seal itself didn't change. So what people are really complaining about is the logo, not the seal, and that really has nothing to do with the BOR (certainly not the current one) as that change happened 30 years ago.

I wasn't aware that was a thing, but... hmm...
Pretty good resemblance. Actually a bit flattering.

That's just not a good argument. Imagine if instead of the beveled ATM we had gone with Sarge. Would it then be appropriate to use Sarge on the university seal?
I'm the last that wants to be like everybody else, but take a look at these. What is gained by this change?
Posted on 4/30/15 at 11:51 pm to finestfirst79
eh, I'm trying not to be too preachy but you are creating straw men. Ol Sarge is not our logo. And the Ring is not our logo (and is a mark in and of itself that doesn't contain any of our school logos). This is completely changing the argument to what-ifs. If you want to go there, that's an entire Branding Seminar. Let's keep it to the issue at hand....
Our old seal had our school logo in it. We retired that logo and do not use it for anything. We have made the decision to replace it in our official seal with the logo we do use. Tell me where the problem is without saying you don't like the logo or you don't like change.
Consistency. Awareness. A stronger brand. It's a bit like asking why eating broccoli is good for you. It's good in many ways that aren't obvious and don't give you immediate gratification.
And for the record, most of those seals are horrific. I'm not sure what you gain by inserting them into the discussion
