Up until their title year in 2005 Mack Brown had never won a conference title either. It took him 22 years as a HC and when he finally did they won the whole damn thing.

So to act like b/c Sumlin hasn't done it yet means he likely never will is pretty stupid.

Acting like Mack - who is the exception - is the rule is pretty stupid. Mack is an outlier. Going by the past 20 years of Natties, coaches who are capable of doing it have already done it or are WELL on their way by the point we are with Sumlin. Instead, Sumlin's following up an 8-win season in which we got dogstomped by our division's major players with an abomination of a recruiting class relative to what we need to compete in this conference.

I think up until this cycle he's been an above average recruiter. I think his coaching style is fine, but took a gamble with spav and tried to remedy it with DC and only made it worse.

And simply, I like Chavis too much. If we fire Sumlin we most definatly lose Chavis

I had been a full-on Sumlin supporter, but this year changed that. My biggest concern is that he's lost control of the message. Other people are defining our program for us. It's his job to keep the vibe positive, and he doesn't appear to be doing that now, either for the program or for himself.

There is no rule.

Nick Saban didn't win a conference title outright (or have a 10 win season) until his 8th year as a HC. His single year at Toldeo he did tie for the MAC conference title w/Central Michigan. The MAC had no conference title games then but Toldeo lost head to head vs Central Michigan in a de facto MAC title game and wasn't invited to a bowl. At Mich St he went 6-5-1, 6-6, 7-4, 6-6, 9-2. At LSU he went 8-4 year one and finally won a conference title outright at 10-3. He followed that with 8-5. Does anything there really indicate that Saban was about to go on an all time great run as a college HC?

Overall Sumlin has done a decent job. Just from looking at overall record and SEC record for the past 4 years.

Isn't he undefeated in OOC play? He finally lost his first bowl game this year. So, he has results to speak of...

I am not pleased with the latest QB and recruiting developments, so this is kind of a measuring stick year for him. His strong recruiting the past few years will have to pay dividends this year.

Here's the biggest knock on Sumlin: 18-9 at Kyle Field. (.667 pct)

R.C. Slocum's home record: 72-12-1 (.853 pct)

Mike Sherman's home record: 17-11 (.607 pct)

Dennis Franchione's home record: 23-10 (.696 pct)

Kevin Sumlin has a worse home record than Dennis Franchione did

Yep, we've been terrible at home. There's absolutely no excuse; our last two seasons tanked largely due to us shitting the bed at home against teams we should have been able to beat.

Hell, maybe we get Bert

As much as I hate him and Arkansas, I would do a complete 180. I would love to steal him away. He will also be able recruit significantly better at a&m. I really hope this can be an option.

The problem with Bert is that he may alienate our primary pipelines in Texas.

I thought he was pretty well liked by Texas high school coaches?

Bert lost to Toledo. Y'all would never forgive a coach that lost to Toledo.

A Bert & Chavis combo with upgraded talent would be a scary scary team to play.
