Elko has done his absolute best to make lemonade with the lemons. He was handed, I’m very optimistic that he will put a very serviceable and competitive team together this year

He’s came in and added depth, that’s for sure. Many of these portal guys may not crack the two deep, and that’s fine, just need to have depth in case of injuries.

With so many it'll be hard for a lot of them to crack the 2 deep, but between the pash rushers, some of the secondary, and maybe a WR I could see them starting or playing very significant roles.

You’re probably right, but out of all those portal players, I’d be shocked if some of them didn’t become starters

Kids develop after leaving high school, five stars at leave high school sometimes become benchwarmers and three stars at leave high school for a group of five school sometimes develop into players that would start for Alabama.

Honestly, I want it all to turn out well, but I’m just really happy at this point with the effort and energy the staff has put in to filling the holes on the roster as aggressively as possible.

If we want to win right away (we all do, obviously) then adding a bunch of 20 to 24-year-old men with player experience to the mix is how to quickly make improvements from '23 to '24. Long term we still need to recruit from HS at a high level. Even if Elko worked magic in his first 3 weeks and brought in a top 5 HS class, it would have less impact on '24 than what is being done now with the portal IMO.

I agree 100%, the path to recruiting well in the next cycle is to win at least eight games hopefully nine next year

Elko has used the portal successfully to fill the holes that he will need to do that. Now it’s on the coaches and the scheming.

I think Alston decided to decommit. Hard to keep up, think he is headed to Boston College.

According to Brauninger on texags radio this morning, sounds like A&M has stepped back from Denver Harris. Elko was looking at him seriously but was more out of necessity because of how thin we are at that position. Since he was able to bring in several DBs through the portal, the A&M staff is backing off. I think that’s the right move.

Someone told me they didn't think the university would let Harris back.

Stewart to Oregon, should be interesting to see if he keeps it together up there. Better there than in the SEC.

Is it me or do I feel more comfortable with Saban retiring?

Might be able to poach some people... especially if they swing and miss on some of their targets.

Ryan Williams is visiting, put in a good pitch and we should be ready to go

If they can get his head on straight, Stewart will probably kill it in that Oregon offense. Perfect place for a smaller speed guy like he is. Big if though, he’s quit on his high school team and first college team, we will see if he quits on them or not.

A&M lands a Washington transfer TE, Tre Watson, he committed to Washington last month after playing for Fresno State last year.

I think some of our board members have to come to terms with the fact that clearly Elko connects with recruits and clearly they see him as a good hire
