We've done it before. We stole Sherrill and Fran, and Sherrill at the time was the biggest coaching steal shock in history.

Can we adjust our expectations please? I will not go through another damn meltdown on this board after our dick rocket misses the Moon and lands in motherfricking Tatooine.
Jmfor reference, Texas and LSU shot for the moon last year too and look at what they ended up with. One got a weirdo and the other got a guy who can't speak English.

I don't think anyone truly believes we will get someone like Petersen. But we absolutely should reach out and make coaches on that tier tell us no before we move on down the list

Yeah I don't think there's any way we get Petersen, and we probably don't get Fuente or Fitzgerald, but I am fine with going after them first then moving to someone like Durkin depending on how Maryland does this year.

Pat Fitzgerald is BY FAR the least likely to leave his current school.
-He played linebacker on the last Northwestern team to go to the Rose Bowl
-He was thrust into the head coaching role while the defensive coordinator when the head coach DIED a week before that season started
-He was the coach of Northwestern during their first bowl win since World War II
-He is their version of Kliff Kingsbury...only with actual bowl wins.
I personally wouldn't dare approach Fitzgerald because I wouldn't want to do that to Northwestern.

This is real life and college football is business. If you think he's a great candidate for the job you approach him, who gives a shite about Northwestern

Thoughts on Gundy? Don't know if he would work in the SEC, but he's been the mark of consistency. No reason Okie Lite should be as good as they are every year.

That's how we got to where we are, by managing expectations. I'm done with it. I want my kids to view A&M football like I view Bama, Ohio State and LSU. I want to be the best.
If we strike out, so be it. But in 2011 we didn't even swing.

I love Gundy. Don't think we would get him but he's a great coach IMO

Yeah he had a rift with Pickens for awhile but I think it's blown over, plus he can wait him out.
I've been pushing gundy for awhile and no one on 247 thought he was good enough.

5 of the last 7 years = 10 or more wins. They could have played in the national title game in 2011 too.

brohm won 10 games two straight years at WKU and had purdue give lousiville all it can handle is now blowing the doors off an ohio team that was predicted to win the MAC during the preseason
put him under the young up and comers that we will most likely have to choose from

I would LOVE Gundy, but I'm afraid we missed the boat on him. He got a fat extension a back in January and Stoops, his only true nemesis, is now retired. If Gundy stays in Stillwater another 10 years, he's going to win a pile of conference championships, make a few CFB playoffs, and retire as the best coach by far in OSU history (all while making close to 5 million/year). Maybe we could draw him away, but as an OSU alum, you know that the idea of retiring a legend has to be VERY attractive to him.

Pass.
He plays against soft defenses week in and out. Big12 offenses don't work in the SEC.

"Big 12 offenses" fail against real defenses when they have crappy offensive lines that can't establish a run game or keep 3&4 man rushes from getting to the QB. But spread formations, run with a quality OL, works just fine. That's why you're seeing more and more 4&5 wide in the NFL.
As for Gundy, he has always focused on OL development, and relied heavily on the run game. His offense would work fine in the SEC. In fact, it's our best shot at beating Alabama. Games like LSU's 9-6 victory require 1) a historically good defense and 2) a historically bad kicker. Ask LSU how often those stars aligned.
