Sumlin is out after the season, and we are willing to pony up $6-$10 million for a proven head coach. Woodward has a list of 6-7 candidates (3 Big Ten, 2 ACC and 1 SEC/PAC-12) and we're shooting for the moon.

We won't land the moon so hopefully they have a solid plan/are on the same page when we strike out on the far fetched candidates.

We've done it before. We stole Sherrill and Fran, and Sherrill at the time was the biggest coaching steal shock in history.

I just think times have changed. If we are shooting for the moon, those targets are probably

Meyer
Harbaugh
Franklin

Fisher
Swinney

Peterson? Shaw?

SEC I dunno (assuming they don't have Saban on there lol) I don't really think highly of a single other SEC coach outside of Saban. Maybe Malzahn or MUllen? meh

Anyways, the only two I see being even remotely attainable of the list above are Franklin and the Pac 12 coach, and they are still huge longshots. I just don't see it happening. I think we will get turned down and used for extensions/raises and we will end up with an up and comer type. And that's fine, I just hope everyone is on the same page with who it is and will push all the resources behind them. No more of the stupid infighting.

No way in hell we get any coach we shoot the moon for. We have money but that's about it.

Now if the Big Ten coaches include someone like Fitzgerald and taking out a delusional candidate like Meyer/Harbaugh, that's more attainable but still a long shot. But I would be ecstatic with Fitzgerald

I just want us to actually make the Meyers and Petersons of the world tell us no this time. No more good old boy network. If Aggie Chad is the best we can do so be it, hell I like him. But let's at least make some calls and throw out some big numbers before settling.

My guesses (assuming all HCs)

3 Big Ten
James Franklin
Mark Dantonio
Lovie Smith

2 ACC
Bobby Petrino
Pat Narduzzi or Justin Fuente

1 SEC
Mullen

PAC-12
Kyle Whittingham

Yeah and if we're starting early I am fine with them reaching out to those guys and making them say no. I just hope when they do say no they know what they want from a less proven coach and some dick measuring contest doesn't occur between boosters

Everybody knows Chris Peterson is a good football coach, but opinions differ on the less proven guys. We need everyone (and all the money) behind whoever hire though to make this thing work

Kevin Sumlin was the head coach on the losing end of the second worst comeback in NCAA history.

You know who was the head coach on the losing end of the worst? Pat Fitzgerald.
