I'm interested to see how he shakes things up with our personnel

When all his (successful) former players unanimously and publicly sing the guy's praises, and it's not because he was a cool brah they liked chillin with, then it's hard not to be excited. The man is a fundamentals fanatic who measures and critiques steps to the half-inch, which is exactly what we need right now. Get these guys using proper technique starting from the ground up and let's get back to playing football! We have Keith Ford available for next season - let's not waste that on a line that can't open a hole! Thank goodness we made this decision!

Good hire, but it's tough to get excited about any assistant hires at this point. This is the third straight offseason assistants have been scapegoated to explain our failures, so I'm pretty disillusioned with this process.

I'm not sure why you post honestly
At least until we get a new coach

Because contrary to popular belief, objective aggy can be as diehard in their fandom as blind loyalist aggy.
I would argue those who still support Sumlin have no reason to post because their thoughts never change no matter how well the program is doing.

I don't really support Sumlin but bringing your narrative in every thread on this board has to be tough work. Take some time off now and then

This.

I wasn't talking about you specifically, just answering your question.

Dude, I have declared e-jihad against Sumlin but even I can say this was a good hire. C'mon.

I specifically said it was a good hire
That's the great thing about not basing your entire outlook on a program based on individual events. I can see the good in a hire while acknowledging it probably doesn't change much. Contrast that to many on Texags, who now firmly believe this will get Sumlin back on top.
Every time we land a good recruit or make a good hire, it's a program defining moment for some.

I'm more e-skeptic than e-jihadi, but I agree. You don't have to think this hire heralds the dawn of a new era, but I don't know how this hire doesn't at least give you hope. Turner is the closest thing to a known commodity at a coaching position of need as there is.

I'm still very skeptical but big improvement on the OL would go the furthest for our team's success over any other unit.

It doesn't change my opinion of Sumlin. It doesn't mean we're suddenly going to be winners, particularly since it'll probably take a couple of years to fully re-train what we have and we need to recruit better OL, which will take even longer, but it at least gives me hope that we're not totally a lost cause wasting any effort or talent we have elsewhere on the team, which we were with as poor of an OL as we had.

We need a culture change, and preferably more legit Xs and Os guys on staff. I'm not sure the former is possible at this point with Sumlin barring a drastic turn of events.

IF the culture changes, it'll be because Sumlin hires assistants who have a different attitude. He's hands-off with how his assistants handle their business and pretty aloof from the day-to-day, so if the combination of Chavis, Maz, and Turner results in a different team attitude then it's not like he's going to un-do anything. But to your point, no Sumlin himself ain't changing and he's not going to try to change any "team attitude" himself either. I'm not sure how much it matters though given he's just the CEO. There are plenty of stories in this sport of teams that got a hard working attitude or a junkyard dog attitude from assistants or certain players and not the head coach. Here's to hoping!

@ trying to act like you are objective.

Call it objective or realistic all you want Roger but you are not in the Sumlin camp.
I don't need a bunch of posters from either Texags or gigem247 to form an opinion. The Internet message board community is a hyperbole, but the majority of ags just want to win and can see Sumlin is trying to right the ship.yet, I still don't see anyone putting him up on a pedestal. If so, please provide examples.
Chavis, Mazzone, now Turner.
it's very possible, but if we are all expecting something drastic next year, us as A&M fans are not being realistic. I hope the big wigs have more longevity than many of us on this board and others.
you talk alot about texags being overly positive, but something over at Hop's protege tavern 24/7 (Taylor was an intern on scout when i was a student) has completely blinded you.

You can argue that the big wigs are the ones who put us in this mess with the ridiculous contract.
