Been a while since I've posted, but I wanted to jump back in...Bruce Feldman went to last night's practice and provided a couple snippets.

Noticed a big difference in how much more physical & mature #TAMU looks ESP on D from years past. Look a lot deeper & not so young any more.

quote:

Two FR created a ton of good buzz inside #TAMU program: Tyrel Dodson, a big, thick LB who can really run & strong-armed QB Nick Starkel.

I was already pretty high on Dodson but that video of him running down a swing pass on the perimeter....he might be able to contribute this year. No matter what, I expect him to be a huge factor in the future.

Yep, and I think I saw somewhere that he squatted the most on the entire team earlier this year (700+ I believe). Stinks we only got one LB in the 2016 class, but at least we got a really good one.

I certainly don't hate any of that.

I made some of these same statements a couple of days ago and was beat up for it. Glad to see somebody else agrees. The look and feel of this team is just different. Hopefully it translates to the field, but A&M has a tough schedule.

I've also been beating the Starkel drum. I told you guys that the Elite 11 guys almost voted him #1, but it was political. They all said he had more upside than Kyle Allen or Tate Martell. The coaches also said Mazzone was a beast. They also had good things to say about Moorehead, but I think one of the guys might have played or worked with Moorehead so I can't take that at face value.

People gave the staff crap for not going after the TX kids, but Chavis only wanted 2 this past cycle.

He put all his eggs in the Dodson and Divinity basket, because Divinity said he was going to commit. Btw...Divinity will likely start for LSU this year at OLB.

I'm not trying to beat you up at all...
But if you're referring to the Auburn comments, you said 2012 we looked like a JV team compared to Auburn. Others responded that we beat the brakes off WDE.
That's hardly beating you up

There were guys with flashier numbers who went to much bigger high schools and so they became these recruit stars. Among those was Martell. The Tater had the spotlight for years, which is why he has a ton of hype and Starkel didn't. It's self-perpetuating. Starkel is a beanpole who went to a not-renowned private school in the burbs. He didn't get the limelight. It is political. Mazzone always wanted Starkel though. Starkel was Mazzone's target prize when Mazzone was at UCLA. Mazzone scouted him and thinks he fits his system best. On that basis, I was always 100% down with wanting the kid. Why do you think ESPN gave him 4* and everyone else have him 3*? Because ESPN actually scouted him and the rest of the services just gave him the default stars for a guy they haven't actually seen, but had the numbers he had combined with the schools who were interested. A lot of times they don't want to be embarrassed later, but they don't know who the kid is, but notice some big schools with interest, so they say "uhhh... 3*" Contrast Starkel with the Tater, who is another punk like Manziel and the Midget and no doubt the fame and attention has gone to his head and made him think he will be NFL worthy as a freshman like Kyle Allen thought. I didn't mind losing the Tater at all. Good riddance. We already had Starkel who is 6'4", will grow into his frame, and is a good fit for Mazzone, whereas the Tater is not really useful in this system and would just be an attention-seeking distraction. We need more Starkels and less Taters, Midgets, and Babyface Allens.

Some stats guys are saying that Richard Moore is already better than Malik. Malik actually led his team in missed tackles (13).

Technically it's 2 5th year seniors, 2 sophomores and 1 freshman. Not many teams in the league with 5th year seniors.

Anybody know what's going on with Madubuike? With our DL depth, he probably isn't needed, but I haven't read anything about him all fall.

He's still not 100% after his senior year back injury, he's taking a RS year.
