One of two things happened
#1. Texas people bitched and said NO
#2. Our people bitched and said NO.
At some point, every team except A&M had a bowl berth appointed in the SEC. Tennessee was playing WVU and Arkansas was playing ECU in Birmingham. Someone forced bowl officials in Houston to do something about it. My gut says it was Texas officials since they run the Big12 and probably threatened to take their conference to another bowl affiliate in the future.
Whoever it was, I hope someone rats out the bitch who didn't want this to happen. fricking pussies!

I sort of wonder if like jobu said, we wanted a smoking gun. The matchups were obviously changed and someone is going to ask why. It can't be the Texas Bowl that didn't want it and obviously isn't the SEC or they wouldn't have matched it like that to begin with. So that leaves one party...

the story...as it was relayed to me
The schools were basically allowed to pick in order with the SEC having reasonable override. We were set to go to Nashville this morning and LSU to Houston.
When ND got put in Nashville, LSU changed their mind and wanted to go there. We were asked where to next and we said Houston. Thus Tenn to Memphis, Arky to Birmingham, etc, etc. The Texas Bowl had told the sips it was going to be LSU and they threw a fit when it became us.
We didn't care that much one way or other and Arkansas desperately wanted Houston. But we balked at Birmingham and ECU so they had to reorder everything. Thus the chaos and why multiple bowls put out announcements with the wrong SEC teams.
