We're were so unclutch this weekend yet we had 2 walk offs. Does that make any damn sense?

We have 3 cupcake midweek games and 4 series left, 3 of which are of hosting quality. I think a realistic finish would be 11-4 (8-4) which puts us at 43-12 (20-10) going in to the SEC tourney. 2 wins there would give us 45 and I would think a lock as a national seed.

thinking anyone that gets to 20 wins in the SEC is going to be a national seed

The committee is going to have to work really hard to not give the SEC 3 this year. Like really hard. UCSB got swept this weekend and yet still have the best RPI of teams not in the SEC or ACC.

I believe the committee will balance it as well so they give bonus points to the division winners. Thus, win the west and I think we're a national seed. We have a 2 game lead but it's over 3 teams so if anyone gets hot it's trouble and we have a lot of tough games to play.

If some gets hot will likely be State. They finish with @BAMA, MIZ, @AUB, ARK.

woof. Looking at that I'm really glad LSU won today

Definitely rooting hard for Bama this week then. Other than vs us, State has an awesome resume. We don't need them muddying the waters

They only have 4 top 50 games left on the schedule. And possibly only 1 if Bama falls out. I'm not sure their RPI can get high enough to screw us if we take care of business.

directly yeah but I'm concerned that they catch us for the West lead

The SEC has 5-6 teams that depending on how the season goes from here could be in the discussion for a national seed. Our resume is very very strong. But it starts getting pretty arbitrary if you remove a division championship for us.

Had this pointed out to me today and I'm curious other thoughts...

last year the NCAA seeded 5 SEC softball teams in the top 8 (they actually seed 1-16). FIVE! One was even at #9 in RPI.

That was the first time in softball more than 3 top 8 seeds came from one conference.

Does anyone think they would do that in baseball? If not, why in softball?

Who knows. I would probably say no.

Loyal over on TA had a good post with some data from the last several years on national seeds.

if we sweep Arky and handle the rest of the series, especially how hard the next are, we will be ready for Regionals/Supers/Omaha.

I want to agree with you, but it just seems like a crap shoot so often. We just need to be on weather he are a national seed or fall about and not even host. OSU won a national title after almost missing the tournament (geez like 10 years ago). Last year UVA was sucking arse at this point and then they went on to break the championless ACC streak.

while I certainly appreciate the effort, he's using WN rpis from end of season rather than Boyd's which has point in time RPIs (you can actually see the RPIs at time of selection).

For instance his example of non-top 16 RPIs making national seeds

San Diego 2007 (#8 national seed) - 15 RPI at time of selection. Went 2 and Q in their regional.

Fullerton 2008 (#5 national seed) 9 RPI at time of selection. Swept in Super

This blows my mind. RPI needs report

Florida
Remaining: 5 home, 9 road, 0 neutral
Current RPI: 1

Top 8:
0 home wins, 1 road wins
1 home wins, 0 road wins
