Hamm said we have a silent and "might" have another.

Solid list.

With that list we may need to change our hash-tag to #WRTWUS (We Rule The Western US). But can we please find ONE linebacker in any of those states?

Can someone explain why a recruit or the coaches would want to make a commit "silent". I don't understand the reasoning behind it.

Because silent commits only exist in the confines of recruiting guys who want to sell subs

Couple potential reasons:

1. Player wants to publicly commit at a later date, like at a school ceremony or all star game

2. Coaches/players worried about how other teams or fans may respond. I remember reading a while back about how Louisiana kids would face ungodly amounts of anger if they committed OOS. The Shiro Davis commitment to UT comes to mind (although he just waited until NSD to commit, not sure he was silent)

Also a more shady silent commit tactic that happens every year when a kid already knows for sure where he's going but is highly recruited. They might get an idea planted to flirt with other programs so another staff spends more time recruiting him and then when he sticks with his original "silent" then they might be left high and dry or without a good backup option. Happens every year close to signing day. I'm pretty sure they had Tyron Johnson doing just that last year except he was committed at the time.

Come on now. Silent commits are almost as legit as public commits these days lol.

Les Miles commented on having a few commits who weren't public late this summer.

If it wasn't Hamm I would believe it. Whaley and/or Brandon Jones would be my guesses though

I think cuffee or Diesch. Cleveland may not be far off considering we're supposed to lead and he's looking like an all star game announcement

On NSD Mack openly said he was a silent re-commit after the Chavis hire

Yeah this almost certainly happens with rival schools

after watching our qb play, im pretty sure Tate Martell is as solid as can be. Lol, I know he's 2017 but yeah besides that I've no clue. Obviously not good to lose at home in front of a bunch of recruits but the atmosphere was amazing so who knows

Yeah the crowd was nuts. Alabama was dying when they were backed up inside their 20.

Not sure, but I imagine we will get some really solid "under the radar" 3-stars out of it.
