Good game guys. Knew those bats would get to us sooner or later. I like the fact we kept it competitive for a while at least.
We'll see y'all tomorrow.
BTW - WTH is up with mustaches these days? Just not a good look on most.

Very good game.
And very good crowd! I hope they can keep this up through the weekend. With a really good Mizzou team and good weather in the forecast they should.

Agreed. I think somebody... or lots of somebodies... must have lost a bet. But I don't have any inside info.

I hate "mustache march" and "no shave November" when posers try to sprout facial hair and fail miserably

The second-ranked Texas A&M baseball team didn't disappoint a Blue Bell Park-record crowd of 7,391 on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series between the two Southeastern Conference division leaders.
...
The Olsen Field attendance record is 8,847 set on May 16, 2003, when A&M beat Texas 6-4. The previous mark for Blue Bell Park was 6,944 set on April 27, 2012, when A&M beat Texas 6-5. Olsen Field was renovated and renamed before the 2012 season.

And while I was looking up attendance records I found this. It was as of 1999.
Total Crowd (Includes estimate in Aggie Alley)
1. 11,052 vs. Texas (Apr. 30, 1999) 8,452 paid plus 2,600 in Aggie Alley
2. 10,730 vs. Baylor (Apr. 17, 1999) 8,230 paid plus 2,500 in Aggie Alley
3. 9,151 vs. Baylor (May 1, 1998) 7,351 paid plus 1,800 in Aggie Alley
For Comparison
State - 15,586
LSU - 12,737
Arkansas - 11,742
Ole Miss - 11,729
South Carolina - 8,242
However most of their records are somewhat recent. Ours is 15 years ago. We need Aggie Alley back!

yeah I saw that number and thought didn't seem right. Makes sense that it's the highest paid attendance because it became pretty normal to have 1k or so in the outfield.
In 93 vs Baylor on Parent's Weekend was probably the largest crowd I've ever seen including things like the Super in 99. They stopped letting people in Olsen and there were huge mounds of dirt beyond the wall for the Rec Center construction that were used as hilltop seating. It was as packed as the berms yesterday but basically all along the left field wall.
Btw, State counts the same way we did at AA so the 15.5 is a guesstimate.
Hopefully the enthusiasm around the team this year carries over like 89 did. Going to a game at Olsen is just fun, especially as a care-free student. I'd like to see crowds like yesterday be more normal than not. It's been a little sad to see crowds of 3-4k for conference matchups the last few years.

Long isn't on tonight
he really struggles with command at times. His problem is his fastball has so much natural movement, a really good thing normally, that he struggles to throw it for strikes when he needs to do so. And he really lacks a plus breaking pitch so he can't finish hitters off sometimes as they foul off a bunch of pitches.
When he's a bit off like yesterday he ends up throwing a ton of pitches and doesn't go deep. He threw 90+ in 5 innings. It's really rough as a Fri starter because he works the bullpen hard. With Vinson having thrown 3 IP, I doubt we see him today.

4,016 as of 3/23. After this weekend it should be ~4200. I would be shocked if we can't get it close to 5,000 if we keep kicking arse like we have been. Last year we were around 4,200.

Watched the game online and every now and then I'd hear a roar from the crowd and it would make me jump saying "WTH was that? What happened? Someone die?"
Just not used to crowds like that at Mizzou. Cards games? Of course. But not Mizzou.

We got someone, might be a mid-week starter, who has it going on too. Iowa in the wrestling tourney had a ton too.

Ty should be though. I think he threw 4 pitches and gave up 2 hits and 2 runs. Plus we have Ecker, Hendrix, Freeman, Hill (if Larkin is back on Tuesdays), and even Kopetsky has looked great in fir 1st 2 appearances.

Yeah, we're deep for sure but it's not ideal, especially since we are without Simonds in the pen for the first time this year. You'd really like to get more from your Fri starter. Not too worried just yet. If Simonds can go at least 6 this afternoon we should be in good shape. I'm just thinking about the Larkins type situations last weekend which would seriously stress us.

Anybody else get nervous when our pitchers have to make a fielding play???

I get more worried about our 3rd basemen.
