Jancek did well during his time at UT. 4th quarter play calls are all that were truly questionable.
If we hire Shoop, then I am all for the move. A Shoop-led UT defense, with JRM and Sutton returning, would be elite.

My main issue with was when it came to crunch time I can hardly think of an example where his D held, even UGA was a few inches from scoring a TD on the batted ball

I'll leave out Arky tho it could be argued
For all those who will argue for our 28th overall D ranking that was only good enough for 8th in the toughest conference in the nation

Jancek wasn't terrible and a ton better than say Sunseri. Were we going to get to the elite level with him? Probably not. I don't think was all necessarily for solely on the field performance.

I actually think Butch wanted him to go. I think Butch knows we have a chance to be a championship contender next season and I think he knows Jancek isn't the answer at DC down the road. He was a good DC to help get the program turned around and I'll always respect Coach Jancek for that and I hope he finds success wherever he ends up. But I don't think we could take that next step to being an elite defense with him at the helm. Some names I'd look into would be Bob Shoop, the DC at Penn State, and Marion Hobby, the Assistant Head Coach at Clemson

Yea I def respect him and think he did somewhere between a serviceable to good job but think we need better

To win a Championship, you need an elite defense.

To be fair, this was the first year he had great talent. But yeah... He was never gonna be elite.

I liked Janitors but someone has to be held accountable for the defense's 4th quarter meltdowns imo. I don't think Butch would've let him go like this unless he already had an upgrade on the hook and lined up.
Also, if half the rumors about Big John off the field are true, I can't blame Butch for cutting him loose.
