It's not that cut and dry. It takes the same amount of nutrition on a cellular level for either. A larger person is building more muscle tissue with the same amount of exercise but is inherently expending more energy doing so. But then it takes more nutrition for a larger person to exercise effectively due to the extra force required in literally everything they do.

That's not even considering that someone that tall needs much more bone density to offset the added stress that results from bones and ligaments being longer. And the cardio challenges that come with being that large.

That being said, it's easier for a larger person to gain muscle, but that's really simplifying the situation. He's not just having to add muscle, its muscle, developing his cardio with it, and developing proper bone density which isn't as easy to expedite as muscle development. He has a lot of work to do.
Jesus. I can't believe you brought up bone density and fricking cardio challenges.

We are talking about college D1 prospects. Kids who have yet to come close to their potential because of the lack of diet, nutrition, exercise, and growth. Please assume they all have relatively healthy diets and are in fricking shape to receive an offer to play in the SEC. Assume that they actually participate in sports, and as such, fricking bone density is of no concern. Also assume that since they are talented enough to garner D1 SEC scholarship offers, that they are genetically gifted.

Since it's so hard for tall athletes to gain weight, I wonder how Peppers did it.

. Before the 2001 football season began, it was set: Julius was done with hoops, and he would apply for the NFL draft in 2002.

Over the summer, Julius rededicated himself to football. Knowing that pro teams wanted to see more bulk on his 6-6 frame, he added 15 pounds of muscle.

He must be a wizard to add 15 lbs in 6 or 7 months.

BOL is reporting that Alabama's Director of Player Personnel, Kerry Stephenson, visited Prince this morning.

Edgewood Academy coach Robby Carr says Kirby Smart is visiting him next week and has invited Prince to personally visit Alabama and meet Saban in person.

It appears Alabama may start to push for him after all.

Jesus dude, I'm obviously not claiming anything with a certainty. My point was that I thought it was really tall for a DE and he was pretty skinny in comparison. I feel like someone that undeveloped is a project, he can certainly be good but there are a lot of uncertainties between now and then.

Seriously, if his listings on 247 are accurate, this kid is likely a bust. You can't be 6'8" 250 pounds and play DE. He would be very skinny and too tall to be effective.

How would Alabama make room?

Then maybe don't make a definitive statement.

Word on the street is that Moton will not be a part of the class and it appears Custis is looking elsewhere too.

We can't, IMO. Just very unfortunate. But then again, I'm not sure he's headed anywhere but Auburn. He's knew to this country and will go where adults are guiding him. In this case, it's AU.

Dion Jordan was the #3 pick a couple years ago. 6'6 275

Dion Jordan has never sniffed 275. He weighed in at 248 at the combine, and I have a really hard time believing he has packed on 27 pounds. I guess it's possible but I highly doubt it. I'm well aware of what he's listed as, I just don't believe it.

He is also 290 pounds.

As for the "better than anything MSU has" comment. Let's see how he stacked up against our DE's this year.

Arik Armstead (15 games):
2.5 Sacks
5.5 TFL

Preston Smith (13 games):
9 Sacks
15 TFL

Ryan Brown (13 games):
3.5 Sacks
7 TFL

AJ Jefferson (13 games):
2.5 Sacks
7 TFL

So we have two guys with marginally better stats and one that tripled his stats, all in 2 fewer games. Just your run of the mill dead fricking wrong x3.

The kid is a Jr and weighs 250. He will be fine and gain another 15-25 lbs. in college. He doesn't need to weigh more than 270-275 lbs.

He's a project with a lot of upside. He'll be fine.

For sure, like I said in my initial post, there is a reason coaches, including ours, are interested.

Not directed at you but here is a link to Ezekiel Ansah for those that think Prince absolutely has to have another year of HS.

Ezekiel Ansah DE Detroit Lions

This kid used 9 games of his senior season to get a first round pick. He played football for the first time as a sophomore in college.

Barkevious Mingo was 6'5" 210 his senior year of high school. Turned out ok for him as the 6th overall pick in the draft...

Vols are recruiting him too. I think they were his first or second major offer.
