You didn't really have to, Smart made VCU a school that has been commonly talked about since he started that run. While Wade kept the momentum going. He was often listed in the raising young coaches that would get a shot at a bigger program.

It's not like everyone who watches basketball knows VCU like the back of their hand. Maybe if he was there longer than 2 years, but you're talking about a young guy who was there a couple years and made the tournament a couple times and only won 1 game in it, so it's not like his name would be nationally renown. It's not like anyone pays attention to VCU basketball unless they start to win some tournament games.

LSU basketball is a sleeping giant just like our baseball and football programs were for years....all it took was finding the right coach to bring it all together. The rest of the conference better hope its not Will Wade, but all signs so far point to him possibly being that guy and I'm f'n pumped.

What do you define as "sleeping giant" exactly?

Don't think anyone would argue that LSU's resources/foundation should be enough for a good coach to consistently be in the NCAAT bid conversation

By all signs you mean he showed some early promise recruiting + willing to be BBall's Last Chance U?
