IMO, the bottom line to Ole Miss-State is this: State has beaten OM 4 of the last 5 times they have played. State is ahead of Ole Miss. The black bears need to beat State at least 3 times in a row just to catch up.

That makes no sense at all.

Hooks had a couple decent games, LSU being one

eh, i mean i guess. he had a sack on LSU's first drive of the game. Outside that, he had one tackle the rest of the game, that tackle being on a QB sneak by Jennings that went for a 1st down. If you take out Mettenberger's sack yardage, LSU rushed for 144 yards on 32 carries for a 4.5 average. LSU just went away from the run at their own detriment. I honestly think that was a huge mistake. Hill and Hilliard were both running the ball well that game. LSU running backs had 90 yards on 17 carries in the first half (5.3 ypc), and that included one possession where Mett threw a pick on the first play, and the LSU defense being on the field 18 minutes of the first half. LSU called 7 fewer running plays than their season average and 8 more passes than their season average.

I guess my overall point is that, outside 2 first quarter sack, it's not like the Ole Miss line, Hooks in particular, made a really noticeable push the entire game. That game was lost by way of LSU turning the ball over and the LSU secondary being god awful the entire game.

I can't think of any juniors that should be good enough to declare after this season. It's the next season when all of those listed will declare.

by my count:
S - Cody Prewitt - senior - gone
DB - Senquez Golston - senior - gone
DB - Trae Elston - junior - OM fans seem to speak very highly of him
DE - CJ Johnson - junior - with a big season you never know
OLB - S Bryant - senior - gone
MLB - D Shackleford - senior - gone

not that it's a sure thing or anything, but it's entirely possible Ole Miss has to replace 6 starters on defense in 2015 and 3/4 of the secondary. And out side D Nkemdiche (and who knows if he can stay out of trouble), Ole Miss loses 3 of the 6 linebackers on their depth chart. Just saying, 2015 could turn out to be a huge transition year for Ole Miss on defense.

Yes...we lose a few key seniors. But only one junior realistically has a chance to go pro...which is what I was refering to.

At this moment, yes we are out recruiting them. Still a ways to go.

I feel you will be ranked higher than us at end as well. But I don't think it will be more then 5-8 spots higher. You all are doing well for sure this year, but most of your biggest targets , minus Adams, are already on board. At this point getting him and some more quality OL/DL are the goal.

Well....Adams and Lewis. Out of the guys you have right now, Hibbler is the only player I would really want for our class. I am surprised by some of the guys you have taken this year.

Here's a recruiting figure I prefer.

Hugh Freeze era Ole Miss signees and commitments with an Alabama or LSU offer
2012 - 4
Trae Elston (both Alabama and LSU)
Isaac Gross (Alabama)
I'Tavius Mathers (Alabama)
Channing Ward (both Alabama and LSU)
2013 - 7
Ryan Buchanan (Alabama)
Tony Conner (Alabama)
Austin Golson (Alabama)
Kailo Moore (Alabama)
Robert Nkemdiche (both Alabama and LSU)
Laquon Treadwell (Alabama)
Laremy Tunsil (Alabama)
2014 - 6
CJ Hampton (both Alabama and LSU)
Garrald McDowell (both Alabama and LSU)
Markell Pack (LSU)
Jordan Sims (Alabama)
Breeland Speaks (LSU)
Rod Taylor (both Alabama and LSU)
2015 - 3
Ugo Amadi (LSU)
La'Michael Pettway (both Alabama and LSU)
Eric Swinney (Alabama)

TL;DR version: We're building quality depth with good players. With another great class in 2016, which is how it's shaping up, we could be a legitimate 8+ win per season program with the occasional ten- to eleven-win season.

God forbid anyone say let's pump the brakes on "well their class will nevAr be as good as this one" about a class that hasn't proven much on the field. And your entire fanbase goes t-total fricktard because people aren't going to hand them the national title because they won a paper recruiting victory one year. Something you do every February because Mullenz can't croot!11! Oh, wait...

What class hasn't proven much on the field? 2013? Yeah, the numerous freshman all-Americans we got out of that class haven't proven shite...

And I don't have a fan base, but I do and have, several times, called out OM fans for their shitty recruiting opinions. But for you to say anything about that is definitely throwing stones from a glass house.

Get a fricking grip dude. Mullen can't recruit, duh.

To catch up to what? Or are you under the impression that SEC football was invented in 2009?

Does it not concern you that MSU has won 6 of the past 10 and 11 of the past 20?

Losing 4 of the past 5 to a team OM has dominated historically should be alarming. No?

Of course it concerns them. I'd be bringing up old "back in the day" shite too.

Only in the sense that it demonstrates how wildly inconsistent out program has been. I don't judge Ole Miss in terms of Mississippi State.

I can tell you that TODAY I could give two shits about any teams football program in the 90's, 80's, 70's, 60's, 50's, 40's, 30's, 20's or teens. What impacts Mississippi State football is what happens this year and the years to come. History has very little bearing on most teams success today. To be hung up on the history of your program is to say that you think it was better back in the day. That may apply to y'all. No one's team from 19xx or whenever is going to keep them from getting the shite kicked out of them in 2014. I am far more excited today for this team than I was for our 1998 team. And I am sure that there will be future teams that I am more excited about than this years team.

I agree. That's why the whole "catching up" thing is dumb regardless.

What happened in the past won't change how I cheer for my team in 2014.

I back this also. Both Ole Miss & State has a chance to be very competitive on the football field in 2014. Whatever happen between 2000-2010 doesn't matter.

If State wins more than 7 games this year I will be surprised.
