This conversation is so tired and so overrated. It's about getting good players. Who cares where they're from?

Example from this year: There were three RBs from GA in the Rivals 250 this year. We signed the highest rated one (Chubb). We had Williams committed and were the leader for Choice. We didn't sign them because we got 5* Sony Michel from Florida. Using your statistics, that counts against us, but we'll likely have a more talented roster as a result of that decision.

On top of that, the guys that Rivals thinks are the best players in GA are often not the players UGA thinks are the best in GA.

This is the exact argument I rebutted basically of TT up above except you have done more research, so I'm not going to rehash anything. I've covered that in a smaller sample size HERE.

The point is, and what I think this thread will eventually show, is that UGA actually signs a much larger percentage of the top 15 kids instate that they want/pursue than 18%. The example I've used endlessly is Mike Davis/Kenyan Drake and Gurley/Marshall. The fact that I have to use the former's full names and only the latter's last names are all you need to know. Or Mitch Hyatt is a good example. Whole family went to Clemson, some family played at Clemson and he's a 5 star who happens to live in Gwinnett County. That wouldn't show up in a retrospective analysis unless you really dig, so I'm looking at it prospectively.

It's just something I want to monitor over the course of the year and see just how it plays out. Maybe do it annually, who knows.

I think the only plausible ranking system to use would be the 247 composite because it incorporates more opinions and is more likely to keep bias out. I don't think any single recruiting service nails it, but collectively they do a pretty solid job.

ETA: If it proves to be wrong over the course of the next couple years, then, yeah I'm wrong. Oh well. Just interested to see how it works out.

i know OSU was really high on nunez early on but now seem to have turned their attention to torrence gibson a little. i think they would take both if they can get them.

I just don't get the hype about Nunez yet. He's not done anything special in high school and gets rattled pretty easily.

So to recap, the State of Georgia has produced 18 5 star recruits and a total of 242 prospects out of the State of Georgia that were in the Rivals250. I would consider those top prospects. Out of those 242 recruits, Georgia signed 45 of them. That means, Georgia signed 18.59% of the top recruits in the State of Georgia since 2007. So, OP, why would other schools not think that Georgia has a little problem keeping the best recruits in state when they only sign 18% of the top recruits? I mean, this isn't a myth, it is a truth. It might be hard to see, but it is definitely the truth of Georgia right now.

And we'll sign the best players from other states but that counts against us. Tramel Terry, Sony Michel, Ben Jones, Matt Stafford, Gurley, Marshall, Park, etc...

We focus on more than Ga, y'all. We have top 10 classes almost every year and this is what people harp on. The difference between the number 10 class and the number 5 class can be one player. It's a small discrepancy and is blown completely blown out of proportion.

It's not a myth, brah.

2010-2014 (five classes)
12 five-stars - 3 UGA signees (25%)
94 four-stars - 29 UGA signees (31%)

It's not a myth that a lot of instate talent leaves GA (mathematically, that has to happen), the myth is that the state is raided and that UGA takes a great hit because of it, which is the reason we haven't won a national title with Richt. That's just not true.

I'm going to promptly ignore your reply and continue believing that Richt has no control

Coach Butch Jones had the best thing to sell this past year- immediate playing time.

I think we get Nick Wilson in the end. I'm not sure how Swinney is with other schools but our coaches seem to feel early confidence with him. I would be more than happy pulling those two if we can have a good year in Memphis and in-state considering they're more stacked than usual.

The myth is alive and well, people. We even have the #2 ranked state of Tennessee prospect committed to us currently and it persists from the Vols.

I think you are overstating the "myth". The fact is that, while UGA gets more top talent out of Georgia than any other program, it gets less in-state talen, percentage-wise, than SEC schools located in other states do.

Part of this is just due to the fact that the state has a larger population than other SEC states, except Florida, but part of it is that, because Atlanta is a very large metro area (by far the largest in the South) with most of its population not being natives of Georgia or feeling that much attachment to the state as a whole.....there is much more willingness among recruits to leave the state.

Not much of an argument here. Although, I'd like to see A&M's retention rate. And I think Arkansas did terrible this year keeping their top 10 in state.

Arden Key was committed to USC but decommitted with Wesley Green under pressure from their head coach (UGA homer)

Key is changing highschools for his senior year iirc so I expect him to recommit like Green did.

Taken from an interview in September by Gamecockcentral

quote:

"What made all of this happen?"

Arden Key: "Me and my family and my coach, we just decided that it was best to open up my recruitment."

GCC: "What were the primary reasons for that decision?"

AK: "I really don't know. It was just a thing that me and my parents and coach (decided)."

GCC: "I know in the past, you were talking about staying committed to South Carolina but taking visits and looking at other schools. What changed to make it to where you decommitted instead of staying committed?"

AK: "It was nothing against South Carolina. It was just me and my coach and my parents making that decision. It was just to re-open my recruitment. They felt like I committed too early and wanted me to take my time."

The issue Green and Key had was that the USC coaches weren't calling them. Problem was that it was during the dead period when the coaches couldn't call them. iirc

They went to their coach (an UGA grad) with their concerns. Instead of letting them know it was a dead period, which he certainly knew, he steered them towards decommitting.

Add in the fact that Lorenzo Ward was recruiting both of them and the "I didn't get called enough" excuse was bizarre and seemed suspicious.

You may be right but lots of coaches help in the recruiting process. For some players it's the only father figure they have and the kids trust them. Those quotes don't show me the coach was pressuring him in any direction.
