The myth is alive and well, people. We even have the #2 ranked state of Tennessee prospect committed to us currently and it persists from the Vols.

Just doesn't seem very interested in other schools. Absolutely blasted Bama on twitter around the time he committed to Tennessee. Visited Clemson last week and tweeted this.

He is an Army All American. Bartow called him the most talented player in GA. JCS of 247 posted on our board that if he stays out of trouble he will be hard to keep from 5* status. Highlights are ridiculous.

Well, that is no myth (at least not in recent years, IMO)...

Going by 247Sports composite ratings: In 2014, of the 23 players rated a 4 star or higher, Georgia only landed 6 of them. In 2013, of the 25 players rated a 4 star of higher, Georgia only landed 8 of them (only 2 of the top 10). In 2012, of the 28 players rated a 4 star or higher, Georgia landed 6 of them.

Maybe Georgia didn't recruit a lot of those kids because they didn't fit their system in some way (attitude, scheme, etc), but they let a ton of talent out of the state every year. Maybe we assume Georgia should land more top rated prospects because they have so many in the vicinity. I don't know, but it does seem that Georgia gets raided every year.

They might change the perception this year, who knows?

No doubt he's a talent. I'm not sure about the most talented overall in Georgia, but he's the most talented receiver.

This would concern me as a UT fan

This is a loaded year in Georgia. Quite possibly the best ever. Georgia could finish with the #1 class, but others would still say they "raided" the state. It's a numbers game that UGA can't win.

The only year that sticks out to me that UGA should have done better was 2013.

We'll see. I don't think he's had any kind of behavioral issues. Just seems to be a kid who is a little different.

Spends his summers at fashion shows rather than camps. He and his girlfriend also take twitter a little too far at times. No filter.

I think Ambles is a decent comparison at this point. Although he hasn't the issues that Ambles had as far with the high schools. I think he will finish the year as a consensus top 30 prospect though, just like Ambles did.

Preston Williams is all Vol. Immensely talented, and I havent heard anything about character issues. I expect him to climb the rankings.

UT really wants Edoga, Griffin, and Swinney. I expect we land Chuma Edoga, but he is very wish washy, so who knows.

GA is talented again this year. Hopefully UT pulls three or four of the top fifteen.

It's not a myth that a lot of instate talent leaves GA (mathematically, that has to happen), the myth is that the state is raided and that UGA takes a great hit because of it, which is the reason we haven't won a national title with Richt. That's just not true. Many times there were either character concerns, a bad scheme fit, or we liked somebody better out of state. I kind of broke that down for the 2008 and 2009 top 15 HERE.

In 2012, for instance Mike Davis was #3 in the state and Kenyan Drake was #11. We signed Gurley and Marshall from NC. Did we take a hit by missing out on two top 11 instate guys that hindered us from reaching the national title? No. If anything, going out of state, evaluating, and signing a lower rated Gurley almost delivered us a national title.

Regardless, I don't want to argue about the myth itself in the thread as much as I want to see it play out this year and to keep this thread updated here and there.

ETA: With that said, if you want a year where I thought UGA genuinely failed to recruit the state well, look at 2010. That was brutal.

I don't think so. He tweeted a picture of himself and his girlfriend naked in bed a few months ago. Part of the no filter issue. One of the more mild pictures.

Should UGA really expect to pull almost all of them? I don't think we can, for two reasons.

1.Some kids simply want to go out of state.

2.This isn't a texas type situation where It's Texas and A&M and maybe OU. GA has Bama, Auburn, Clemson, FSU, UF, Tennessee, Ole Miss, South Carolina, GT and even LSU putting a full press on our recruits. If UGA pulled them all we'd have an NFL roster.

ETA: That's assuming all of the top prospects in GA have a committable UGA offer.

i mean we picked up Cortez Mcdowell (#10) and Treyvon Paulk (#31), and Evan and Elliot Berry (top 50 and top 100, respectively). When I say "killed it" GA this year, I didnt mean we got 5 of the top 10 or something. It just amazes me CBJ can get these high quality kids out of state when we have nothing to sell in terms of success right now. But, go on, continue to be a dick.

We pulled kids from 12 states, and UGA was second behind Tennessee (10) with 6 kids

MenloDawg, I actually looked at the past rankings for this and here is what I found. According to Rivals.com, since 2007 here is how the state of Georgia finished.
2007 - 2 5 star and 15 4 star recruits from the State of Georgia were in the Rivals 250. Out of those 17 recruits, Georgia signed 4 of them. Neither of the 5 stars went to Georiga, those 2 5 stars - Eric Berry and Cam Newton.
2008 - 2 5 star and 16 4 star recruits from the State of Georgia were in the Rivals250. Out of these 18, Georgia signed 10 of them including 1 of the 5 star.
2009 - 2 5 star and 12 4 star recruits from the State of Georgia were in the Rivals250. Out of those 16, Georgia signed 5 of them, including 1 of the 5 star.
2010 - 2 5 star and 19 4 star recruits from the State of Georgia were in the Rivals250. Out of those 21, Georgia signed 5 of them, neither of the 5 star.
2011 - 3 5 star and 13 4 star recruits from the STate of Georgia were in the Rivals250. Out of those 16, Georgia signed 8, including 2 of the 5 star.
2012 - 1 5 star and 17 4 star recruits from the State of Georgia were in the Rivals250. Out of those 18, 4 were signed by Georgia, including the 1 5 star.
2013 - 4 5 star and 12 4 star recruits from the State of Georgia were in the Rivals 250. Out of those 16, Georgia signed 4, including 0 5 star.
2014 - 2 5 star and 18 4 star recruits from the State of Georgia were in the Rivals250. Out of those 20, 5 were signed by Georgia, including 0 5 star.

So to recap, the State of Georgia has produced 18 5 star recruits and a total of 242 prospects out of the State of Georgia that were in the Rivals250. I would consider those top prospects. Out of those 242 recruits, Georgia signed 45 of them. That means, Georgia signed 18.59% of the top recruits in the State of Georgia since 2007. So, OP, why would other schools not think that Georgia has a little problem keeping the best recruits in state when they only sign 18% of the top recruits? I mean, this isn't a myth, it is a truth. It might be hard to see, but it is definitely the truth of Georgia right now.

You said he killed it this year. Picking up 3 in the top 50 of the state of Ga is not "killing it." Maybe choose a better wording next time dipshit, no one on here can read your mind or wants to.
