"Rivals-era" = since Rivals started posting rankings online in 2002.
2013 Class - 15
2014 Class - 17
2015 Class - 9
2016 Class - 11
Every champion from 2002-2016 has had at least one top 5 class in either Rivals, Scout, ESPN, or 247.

Swinney is a great motivator and it blows my mind that Venables isn't a HC somewhere. Goes without saying that Watdon is one hell of a QB

From each of those classes they put some dudes on the field last night. The Dawgs starters haven't looked that good since the Matthew Stafford days. Y'all remember, the years Richt underachieved.......shite

I think they're gonna have one now...

Yeah no doubt about that.

They have benefited from playing in the ACC. Basically its them and Florida State in that conference. No one else consistently recruits Top 15 classes. Miami maybe.
In the SEC 15th ranked class would be between 6-9th in conference.

ACC 9-3 SEC 6-7 in bowls. ACC has better coaching. Ask Bert and Butch Jones and Freeze what relying on talent gets you. Blown leads and underachieving.

Miami has outrecruited Clemson every year except for 2015.

Clemson is currently 13th with 13 commits.

It was a good year for the ACC no doubt. I'm curious what the matchups were for them. Like did the 3rd best ACC team beat the 5th best SEC team and what not. I'll have to google that one.

What I'm saying is that those 15th ranked classes are much more stable when there isn't coaching turnover, bad seasons, etc. Even in down years Clemson, Florida State would go 9-3 at worst because there isn't as many good programs in that conference ready to knock them off.
In the SEC if you have a down year you could easily go 5-7 or 6-6. Which would result in having your coach fired which leaves to those recruits transferring, leaving etc.
Basically stability is the reason Clemson is where they are. If you aren't going to have top 5 classes stability is very important.

Stability is not always a good thing.
Kevin Sumlin going 8-5 3 consecutive years is "stability", but only because of his stupid contract.

Having a top level dual threat QB changes everything- basically every team that has made the title game and/or won it without top tier talent stacked deep has had one of those guys- VT had Vick, Oregon is based around that concept, Auburn had Cam, etc
Even just an all conferemce level dual threat guy makes up for tons of shortcomings elsewhere.

Only Clemson has won it without top tier talent stacked deep.
Virginia Tech in 1999 (Vick)
Nebraska in 2001 (Crouch)
Oregon in 2010 (Thomas)
Notre Dame in 2012 (Golston)
Oregon in 2014 (Mariota)
Clemson in 2015-2016 (Watson)
Even Auburn's 2010 class was ranked 4th and two of their other classes were top 10.

Maybe you should judge off of history and not just the SEC's down year. And I believe they at least schedule P5 teams in showdowns to start the season most years.

I don't know who the 3rd best ACC team is.
The 3rd-8th best teams in the ACC have relatively similar resumes.
The SEC was the same way. The 2nd-7th team aren't that far apart. LSU losing to Florida might of messed up the SEC bowl match ups.

Deshaun Watson himself turns that #13 class average into world beaters.

In parallel, Donald Trump is the first president since WWI that didn't go to Harvard or Yale, or military college.
