Take a look at Hugh’s 2013 class at Ole Miss. That was his first full cycle recruiting class and he pulled in 5 five stars.

4th best class in the SEC that year..going to have to do considerably better to get AU where they want to be..

Fun take on Riddick by Tim Watts at BOL-

“No, it's also about how Bama does football like I said. Aka the
pace. Bama isn't for everyone, and everyone isn't for Bama. Riddick wants to have fun in college. He's told several people this. He's also said he isn't worried about the winning. He's told several people this. Auburn has done a good job selling that football will be more fun. Everyone know the Bama, OSU, UGA etc are different than other places.”

Just a copy paste from every time they’ve lost a recruiting battle

Its not that UGA is recruiting poorly, this same thing happened to Bama. We were nigh unbeatable for a couple years there, but then you get LSU, Clemson, UGA, Ohio St, etc not even taking all the guys you want, but maybe some combination of those teams take 3-5 guys per year you would typically get. Then you're just a little more beatable than you used to be. Then just a little more. Also maybe the new car shine just wears off a bit. Maybe you miss on some QBs. Maybe your division gets a little tougher.

But when people were accusing you of struggling you were in the middle of 7 straight years of #1 classes!
I am quite happy with what we get, though honestly. It is kind of fun to get those highly rated classes.
Alabama just set the bar so high for everybody!

Throw in South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida recruiting. Kirby has to work harder than he has.
Simple accurate statement!

I mean, maybe? But there is no denying we will probably have a top 3-4 class again this year, with a possibility of the #1 class. They may have to work harder but he appears to be doing just that.

I think "struggling" is a bad word for it. "Slipping"? Its more others closing the gap a bit I guess.

Either way, I like it better when we seemingly are getting everybody. It's obviously not ever that way, but it sure seems like it sometimes.

Our current class (and we likely add a few and lose a few) would be the 4th best in UGA history and higher than any class any SEC team has ever had with the exception of a few Bama classes, UF 2010 and TAMU 2022.

Those types of classes aren't going to be a permanent fixture. Auburn is the closest geographical major SEC power to UGA. Hiring Hugh Freeze is going to make an impact on georgia's recruiting monopoly. Same goes for alabama.

I feel confident in saying we will have classes similar to this one for as long as Kirby is at UGA. It’s a middle of the road class for him, as it currently sits. Auburn will likely start recruiting better. Doesn’t mean it will come at our expense. We haven’t been building these classes with majority Georgia players for a while.

Fair point. Ya'll do have a lot of out of state commits. I think we'll start taking our fair share from the state of Georgia pretty soon, though.

Looks like you guys are getting some very good news this afternoon! Riddick is a good player. Wish we could have held on to him, but we have felt like he was gone for over a month.

And I'll take it. If we are being made to work harder, then it looks like that is what we are doing. Very nice.

However, this kind of does indicate that he thinks Georgia's recruiting is struggling.

I addressed that. He is saying AU has a legit recruiter in Hugh. That’s all, anyone that doesn’t think that will be a challenge for Kirby, especially if Hugh can start winning, then that’s not being honest about it all. Does it mean Uga won’t still recruit well? Of course not.

Auburn would have never been in the Riddick conversation without Hugh in place and the recruiting culture he has brought. How successful remains to be seen. As Auburn fans we are obviously encouraged by what we are seeing. Big gap between AU talent and Uga, Bama talent. Hope we can lessen those.
