Dude, LSU played 2 teams that finished in the top 10 in 1988.
AU played 5 and 4 of them in a 5 game stretch.
This isn't even a legit comparison.

First of all, I went by historical relevance of programs.
Can't you just say I was being a homer and move on?

True, but it is in the discussion for toughest ever by almost everyone that does the analysis.

Without a doubt one of the toughest ever. Four top ten teams in a row is absurd. Couldn't even imagine a team doing that now.

You laugh, but tell us about UGA's 1980 "championship" schedule. AU beat 9 bowl teams in '83. How many did UGA beat in '80? Regardless, AU most definitely deserved '83 over Miami. Their resume was abysmal.

Sorry buddy 88 LSU is better than 83 Auburn
you cant be serious. Lets just start with your first example Tulane and Maryland. you are saying a 5-6 unranked team is equal to an 8-4 ranked team, who was also top 10 when we beat them.

Sounds comparable. Next questions:
1. Did LSU play and beat 5 straight top 20 teams?
2. Did 75% of LSU's opponents go to bowls (and remember there were half as many bowls in 1983 as today)?
3. What was the winning percentage of the opponents of the two teams?
Also, the correct 1983 final rankings are as follows:
1. AU
2. Texas
3. UGA
4. Florida
5. Miami
AU played the top 3 teams, besides itself in 1983. LSU really played 1 in 2011, bama.

Have to give Texas the nod over Miami and AU in 83. Especially sinceTexas beat the brakes off of Auburn in Auburn in the biggest OOC game in its history.

For historical perspective - here are the records of the teams LSU played in '88:
Texas A&M (7-5)
Tennessee (5-6)
Ohio State (4-6-1)
Florida (7-5)
Auburn (10-2)
Kentucky (5-6)
Mississippi (5-6)
Alabama (9-3)
Mississippi State (1-10)
Miami (Florida) (11-1)
Tulane (5-6)
Syracuse (10-2)
Essentially, you played 4 good teams and split between them, winning at home against AU and on the road Bama (by a combined 2 points) and getting blown out at home against the U (by 41 points) and soundly beaten in the bowl by the Orangemen (by 13). Oh, and you could've still won the SEC outright if you hadn't been whipped in Gainesville, by a team that went out and lost to 6-5 Memphis State and 3-8 Vandy the next two weeks, on its way to losing five of their last six games.

I never laughed at auburn's schedule dimwit. I laughed that they were national champions. We went 12-0 and won the sugar bowl, so we were the 1980 national champs. Your comparison is not apples to apples at all.
