As much as I hate to admit it, easily Ole Miss' most famous alum is Leonard 'Bones' freaking McCoy.

Vonnegut is not a UT alum. He was sent to UT in 1943 to participate in the Army Specialized Training Program, which was a 5 month war-time effort to create specialists in a variety of fields (Engineering in Vonnegut's case).

An exerpt from a Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library article...A student in chemical engineering when the war started, Bob had been selected to receive training in chemical warfare at the University of Tennessee-until, as he said, “…they decided, we don’t really need college graduates, we need fresh cannon fodder. That’s you!”

So...UT offered him a little inspiration for Slaughterhouse Five

Some for USC that haven't been listed yet:

Charles Frazier, author- Cold Mountain. Though he went to undergrad at UNC, he has his PhD from USC and wrote the book while on campus in Columbia. That's gotta count.
Van Earl Wright, sportscaster
Leeza Gibbons, Extra or whatever
Allen Stephenson, founder of Southern Tide
Rita Cosby, newscaster

Came here to post that. We have a sitting President of a foreign country. That's not too shabby.

I'm curious how many other heads of states were educated here in the USA.

That honor rests solely with G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery. And dont forget John C Stennis. How many of these other scrubs listed by other schools have a fricking nuclear-powered aircraft carrier named after them?
