I'm not gonna say a team that lived in the 50's because they were all white and couldn't hold a candle to current day teams. I'm not really sure tbh. Although, 2014 has a chance to be our best IMO.

In my lifetime, its a tough one between the 2003 and 2011 football teams.
Edge to 2003 since they actually won it all.
2011's schedule was far more daunting, yet they went 13-0 and lost a rematch versus one of Alabama's GOAT teams due to poor preparation and having no reliable quarterback threats. 2011 is a more impressive bunch than 2003.
tl;dr — Hypothetical: In your honest opinion, what would 2003 LSU's record be with the 2011 LSU schedule?

How would I know that they were poorly prepared? Despite Jefferson's struggles in the first half of the Arkansas and SEC Championship games, Miles stuck with him with the same gameplan. Jefferson and the option are not what won the first match, and only a fool would think the same strategy would work against Saban in a revenge game that same season. Furthermore, Miles made no offensive adjustments. Having an inadequate OC and no quarterback up to the task on 1/9/12 falls on Miles' shoulders too. However, we are getting off topic. My main point was that 2011 had a greater argument for best football team ever than 2003.

Tuberville deserves mad props for keeping auburn relevant.
But 2004 better than 2010? Doubtful. I'd take the cam newton led team over 2004 any day.

I actually think 2004 would beat the 2010 team. The defense would contain Cam enough, for the offense ground out a win.

It is hard to compare eras. But the 2004 team with an ounce of creativity on offense would have been considered head and shoulders better than anyone else in the country. Nasty defense plus 3 first rounders in the back field and 3 NFL wide receivers and 2 NFL lineman and 2 others that got a decent look before injuries. NFL kicker and Ray Guy finalist punter.
2010 was magical but not better than 2004. Tubs vanilla offensive philosophy kept that team from being what it should have been.

2011 LSU. Worst case scenerio...
You have your most talented team ever except your QB fricking blows. It's a horrible feeling/experience.

I'll get blasted for this, but I still think you guys deserved a split national title that year.
I was re-watching the 2011 SEC Championship, and it really stuck with me when Gary Danielson said LSU deserves a split regardless of the championship outcome.
If only it had not been in the fashion it was. Damn, I thank Jordan Jefferson and Lee for their service to LSU, but I will grow very old and still be in awe that LSU settled for those two for 4 seasons.

ok you convinced me. 2004 was better than 2010
I'm glad bert has a coaching style similar to 2004 tuberville, except bert is more creative offensively. I remember auburn fans were glad they were going back to a more traditional offense, like they had with turberville, when malzahn left in 2011.

I was one of those fans. I have always appreicated great defense, but I understand defense will never be great with a HUNH offense. What we didn't understand is that CGC was medalling in the offense and at times during 2011 out right required CGM to throttle back. Once that became common knowledge Auburn fans understood that the problem wasn't the HUNH, but not being fully committed to the HUNH.
Like any coaching philosophy the HUNH has flaws, but with Saban and to a lesser extent LSU running what they run I would consider it a bad idea to try to replicate that philosophy. The last two coaches to do it didn't win an SEC game.
Also remember fans are fickle. The same vanilla Tubs O haters were excited to see Tony Franklin arrive thankful when he left concerned when CGC hired CGM then happy once he started rolling then quietly happy he left only to be glad when he returned.

Either 96 or 08. 01 might've had the most talent though.

1946 National Title team
11-0
Only undefeated team in the country without a tie and crushed every opponent they faced with an average score of 35-9.
Due to northern bias Army was named the national champs even with a tie

Army and Notre Dame both went undefeated, and the latter got the AP.
