wrong. their head to head record is 3-3, so i'd say neither one is clearly ahead of the other.
And one of those losses was in 2007 when Alabama finished 7-6 and LSU finished 12-2.

I've been to about 20 LSU games and tailgated many more. I also have a TV that catches CBS and ESPN. I've seen the SEC play
Again, it's a guess where Pinkel, Sumlin and Freeze fit in.
Sumlin was 12-1 last year and a Bear Bryany COY finalist for the 2nd time in 3 years. I dont think I over-slotted him at all.
And I obviously don't think highly of Chizik as a coach. Just my opinion. I wouldn't trade anybody I slotted above him to get him despite his NC title. I would much rather have Mack Brown than Chizik who are the two worst coaches IMO to win the BCS.

Anyone who believes that Coach Miles is as proficient in football X and O's as Coach Saban is simply kidding themselves. Both men make mistakes, however I feel Coach Saban learns quicker and makes the necessary adjustments much more quickly that Coach Miles at this point.
Coach Miles seems to be more of a Father figure/friend where Coach Saban is more of a disciplinarian/educator. Both are very good at what they do and seem to have settled into their individual styles quite successfully.
From a recruiting standpoint, Coach Miles has yet to master the job like Coach Saban, end of story. I love Coach Miles and even when he's standing on the sideline with that 1,000 yard blank stare on his face I'm still glad he's at LSU and leading our football team.

We will soon find out if Geno is a one hit wonder

1) Saban [obvious #1].
2) Spurrier [took 3 moribund programs to new heights]
3) Petrino [no championships yet, but offensive genius and teams play hard with lesser talent].
4) Miles [he wins at LSU -- but his weaknesses were exposed in BCSCG]
5) Pinkel [big drop off here; may be ranked too high since never played in SEC, but did remarkable job building Missouri into a Big-12 contender].
6) Richt [solid, but so many questions about team discipline, offensive gameplanning, and toughness; can't get over the hump despite tremendous resources at UGA].
7) Chizik [Struck gold with Cam Newton for that one magic year; coaching defections and other weaknesses put Auburn in the middle of the pack]
8) Franklin [changed the culture at Vandy]
9) Mullen [almost changed the culture at State].
10) Sumlin [well, we think he'll be good - and the ones below have serious issues]
11) Muschamp [hasn't shown he is ready for primetime; but has a shot to fix it with another year recruiting players for his system]
12) Freeze [he's not Dooley and he's not Joker; Ole Miss is a horrible situation, so Freeze deserves credit for any games he wins].
13) Dooley [lost to a Kentucky team running 6 plays with a WR at QB . . . but at least they always beat Vandy]
14) Phillips [beat a bad Tennessee team by running 6 plays with a WR at QB . . . and it was better than their regular offense].

How did Bama and LSU finish in 2008 again?

How can Pinkel be ranked top 5 or above Spurrier and Chizik?
Saban is the best hands down.
Richt is better than Chizik.
Spurrier is an amazing coach, the third best in the SEC.
In my opinion no coach can be top 5 in SEC without a trip to Atlanta.

If you were ranking the 14 SEC Football Coaching Staffs would the order stay the same? I suppose the assistants he hires is considered when ranking the coaches.
At any rate ---

Because Sumlin is a better coach.
How is that? He inherited a team Art Briles built up. Dooley has had two rebuilding projects.

Yeah Dooley is probably the worst coach in the SEC right now. He was certainly the least qualified HC of the bunch. All of the other coaches on the list at least had prior coordinator experience or won big at smaller programs before they were hired by their SEC schools. Dooley had neither. He never had to call plays or devise a gameplan in his life. At least Joker was a really good OC for Kentucky when he had Andre Woodson at QB. He has some skills as a coach. Dooley has none.
Jim Harbaugh and Urban Meyer were never coordinators.

Sumlin lost his starter and backup in the same quarter of football. That offense that year was still top 15 in the nation with the guy that was 4th string the day the injuries happened.
Sumlin is also a 2 time Bear Bryant Coach of the Year Finalist
Its the CUSA. I don't care what their offensive rankings were, they still finished 5-7. Going 5-7 while not having your 3 best players is a lot more impressive to me than going 5-7 in the CUSA. Dooley has had to start a true freshman at quarterback for the past two years.

Wow, simply stunning analysis.
The second best coach in the conference has never won the SEC title. 4 coaches have won the NC.
James Franklin is ranked above the HC of Tenn, UF and Auburn.

Bob Petrino does as good a job as anybody in the conference when it comes to developing offensive talent. We’ll see if his defense can take that next step towards legitamcy now under a new coordinator, until that happens he is a gimmick

Petrino loads up on one aspect of the game and thats passing. They did really well lately at runningback too, but the oline and defense is average at best in the SEC. They will never be SEC champions recruiting that way because most teams are on the rise again.

Saban and Miles are the best. Petrino is probably 3d best.
Dooley and Joker are the worst. Muschamp isn't far behind.
The rest are in the middle somewhere

Spurrier had complete control of the SEC with UF and he did something most thought was impossible which was turn USCe into SEC east champs. Ask how well that went for Lou Holtz. Spurrier is easily the second best behind Saban.

In his day, he was probably just as good. He's past his prime now, though.
