We saw what he was like without his star QB in Houston.

are you really equating the talent at UH to be equal to LSU and bama?
Posted on 10/1/13 at 9:16 pm to WestCoastAg
Considering Houston was playing with a talent base that the rest of C-USA had on their plate?

I don't think Alabama would bottom out to 5-7. Saban hasn't dealt with QB issues at Alabama, but he had some at LSU. He still managed 8 or more wins every year there.
Our offense already looks bad and can't run... I don't think 8 wins would be certain if we lost 1/2 in the 3rd game.

and bama and LSU have more talent than most teams in the SEC. to insinuate that 2010 was a testament to sumlins coaching abilities all because, well bama and LSU wouldnt be affected by that, is absolute shite

Alec Morris is technically the third string and is expected to be the starter next year. I would like to think he is capable of getting Alabama to 8 or 9 wins, with the talent around him.

So their talent was equal yet they were playing with a 3rd string QB. It is pretty hard to win that way with a pass happy offense. It isn't like UH out-talents people.

You're angry. Regardless, of what happened. It would be a wait and see for me with Sumlin. He never won C-USA. He had up and down years there as well. Maybe he is the next Spurrier, for all I know. But again, wait and see.

Are you dense? I'm talking about the talent around the QB to compensate for an injury.

quote:he won 8 games his first year, 10 his second, lost his first 2 qbs which lead to a lost season which would happen to most programs, and then won 12. that is not what you call up and down
e had up and down years there as well

And he took over a program that Art Briles had already placed the ground work for.

any other goal posts you want to move?

Which is exactly my point. Saban, Miles, and other coaches are perfectly willing to throw the football but have built championship teams with subpar offenses. Sumlin may very well be able to do that with a program that has recruiting advantages, but we haven't gotten there yet.

I think Sumlin is a great coach and will win huge with talent. I think any team in the SEC should take Sumlin if they had a promise of a long tenure. Obviously I'd rather have Saban today, however if you said Sumlin would stay for 15 years, then I think you'd promise to be a powerhouse for a long time.
bingo

So they are better coaches because their offenses aren't good? If Sumlin can build a defense, then he will win a championship.

once again. trying to equate someones position at LSU or bama is so different than at UH. you cant bring the athletes at UH so you build around your QB being able to throw the ball. losing your QB is everything at a program like UH
quote:and no one has been saying this. but he is bringing in the type of players that the a&m program needs and to use 2010 as a knock against sumlin is idiotic
but we haven't gotten there yet.

They are better coaches because they've proven the ability to win with different formulas. We haven't seen Sumlin do that at this point. Since the point of this thread is about "would you trade your coach", why would I necessarily want a coach that has one formula?
