You couldn't have lured Sumlin from Houston without joining the SEC?

Y'all really did suck in the Big 12 i guess.

Have had worse beatdowns sense but that is neither here nor there

We wouldn't have wanted to. We have a history of retaining mediocre coaches far past their welcome. See Franchione and R.C. Slocum.

Never intimated that there weren't worse beatdowns, only highlighting Sherman's propensity for blowing early game leads due to lack of adjustments. Happened more times than I could count during his tenure.

So you didn't want to be good till you left?

He was 25-25. So at most 25.

Moving to the SEC was done with the hope that we would raise our game. So...in a way, yes.

We should have never given you that OU pointer a while back

I would say my bad, but its kinda funny watching him do it wrong.

Petti, the hook isn't that it could have been OU over us as we all know how they are chained to OSU and Texas. The hook also isn't anything to do with Texas, as honestly if they got so bad off because of falling behind what they could do in despiration (legislative troubles, investigative Pony Express-style reporting, etc.) could hurt us pretty badly. Honest best case for us is Texas does good (not great) too as that helps the state and keeps them from doing something drastic. Texas will always have options, and I would rather they have some success than a Baylor sneaking a national title Miami-style and changing the long-term picture.

What is AMAZING about realignment is that the most successful program NEAR the state of Texas has no options. OU couldn't drive to the PAC despite all those purchased national titles, and they need Texas to be happy and T. Boone to not t-bone them so they are STUCK in the Big 12. Unlike Texas who could go almost anywhere in 10-ish years OU, a program that cheated its way to more national titles than A&M and Texas combined, is pretty locked in. If the Big 12 continues to suffer in reputation they take the hit without any recourse other than to "win" in an era that will literally be judged like a beauty contest and in a conference where they can't luck out (or REC out) and avoid the second best team.

The whole trick for us is that for the first time ever we have our foot on the necks of a team that has basically stolen our birthright of being the FSU of Texas. Bama let them breath, but overall they are having to "recruit nationally" because Sumlin is stepping on their dicks for the most part in Texas. Once Big Game moves on they will lack that national appeal without wins, and it will only take one bad hire to send them on a downward spiral that turns them into a Nebraska or Minnesota in the GOR decade.

The hook isn't what OU could have done. It's some way of getting across a future where the "OSU/Tech Problem" don't exist for OU and they are given a SEC lifesaver right before we snuff out what was a perennial top 5 program.

Well that was the best hook before I just ruined it for all trollers.

Nobody knows, nobody cares. Too much hypothetical about the past.

But I agree with my fellow Ag posters in that I don't believe we would have upgraded our facilities or our stadium if we remained in the BDF.

The move to the SEC was a jolt of adrenaline to the fanbase, to season tickets, to donations, etc. Sumlin's success accelerated that even further.

edit: I was replying to OP. I agree with cardboard that the move was bigger than winning in one season. It was about turning the tables.
